Holy Smokes is a rock and roll band that offers an updated take on the classic motifs of the genre. Like all the great rock and roll, what they lack in complexity they make up for in pure heart, their two chord anthems like bootleg cassette demos of songs your favorite artist never released left out on the sunny dash of a Chevrolet with the windows up on the hottest day of the year. Spectrally textured guitars launch high vistas of wave-form for wryly mixed poetic lyrics to tiptoe among. It’s a stage show, the wedding band from hell, designed to make all your dreams come true for at least 5 minutes on this, the best worst day of your life.
Holy Smokes are performers, and every show is different. Fearless leader Frank Lee Fabulous always brings the antics, and the other band mates have personalities as clearly defined as any band since the 60s when band members had names and did roll call. The Smokes shows, in addition to featuring a richly complex lyrical assault, are highly physical, which makes them more fun to watch live than probably 80% of bands, who may sound great, but are nearly inanimate onstage. The Smokes will also increase visibility because they play a populist American form, age old rock and roll, as you may know it from every wedding reception you’ve ever been to and which, for better or worse, is the default music for most social functions. We’re a great banquet band, but we try to be arty about it. With the Smokes you are getting band committed to making you dance and making you think, but who aren’t going to be dicks about it.
Guitar and bass amps, drumset and cymbal stands.
