Leading the People Side of Change
Restructuring, mergers, realignment all require a strategic plan for change. The brutal fact is that about 70% of all change initiatives fail1. This presentation introduces a model for guiding organizations through change by directly addressing the sources of change resistance and building employee commitment to the change and to the future organization.
It's the Catch-22 of our time. We are torn between not being successful as an organization because "Failure to Change" and not being successful because of "Changes that Fail." Rowley will provide a framework for applying the Human Resource Body of Knowledge in Business Management and Strategy to achieve the following learning objectives:
• Recognize why 70% of change initiatives fail.
• Review best practices in change leadership identified in the latest research.
• Identify HR's essential role in guiding and leading the people side of the changes that are an essential part of any strategic plan.
• Help Leadership anticipate and mitigate Resistance to Change by incorporating the formula: D x V x F > R into any strategic plan.
• Understand the essential Change Communications layers needed to plan for the changes needed to implement strategic initiatives4:
o Compelling Vision from executive level
o Impact and Facilitation Message needed from employees' supervisors
o Collaboration tools for employees
• Identify key elements and considerations for facilitating the effect of organizational change on all people in your workforce.
