Jessica Dickinson McWilliams is available for weddings, public and private events, recording, recitals and concerts. She plays as a solo musician and frequently collaborates with piano, violin, flute, string quartets and trios.
Jess was wonderful! She was a great communicator and talented musician. We had her play for an hour at our Central Park wedding ceremony and it added such a special touch.
We had the pleasure of working with Jessica on our wedding music. We hosted a small gathering in a garden and wanted a solo cellist to play a prelude, processional, and recessional. Jessica was extremely professional in all of her interactions with us and went above and beyond to ensure we had just the right music for the day, including reworking arrangements to fit the space and time. Jessica created the perfect ambiance for our intimate ceremony. She pays beautifully and we would highly recommend her for anyone looking to make their wedding or any occasion feel even more special. Thank you, Jessica!
Jess and her partner, David, did a lovely job stepping last minute to play Saint Saëns's famous "Swan" from the Carnival of the Animals. At very short notice they were prompt, professional and provided lovely entertainment for our guests and fellow players of movements of The Carnival of the Animals. They were also great new community members, hanging our with us a bit for wine afterwards and getting to know people who attended the event.
Jess was so easy to work with from the start. She was responsive and very flexible with music selections. The sound was so full and rich and I got several complements from my wedding ceremony guests.
Also, I did a lot of research and Jess gave me the best price quote out there.
Smooth, affordable, hassle free and beautiful.
Jess was extremely professional, courteous and a delight to work with. She answered all of my questions prior to the event. She arrived early to our party, beautifully dressed, setup and was ready to play well before our agreed start time. She played wonderfully – all our guests were raving about her! I could not imagine a better performer to hire for a special event. I would hire Jess again in an instant...we might have another party, just so we could hear Jess play.
Jess was professional from start to finish, followed up courteously and was clear and upfront about everything. She worked with my church music director on songs of my choice and did a great job on the day of!
I highly recommend Jessica to anyone looking for elegant string music at their wedding! I contacted Jessica about eight months before my wedding. I was looking for a mix of contemporary and classical music for our ceremony including a specific contemporary song for the processional. Jessica responded promptly, answered all of my questions, made helpful suggestions, and arranged "our song" beautifully. Her pricing is also very reasonable. She was early to the ceremony and started playing in plenty of time for the guests to arrive. Thank you Jessica for adding such a special touch to our wedding!
Jess was very easy to work with and handled our special request for our wedding ceremony. Her interpretation of the music we had asked for was great and it made our ceremony amazing. I would definitely recommend her to those who are looking for someone who can provide wonderful music for any occassions, especially a wedding ceremony. She was also very easy to work with.
Our experience working with Jess was pleasant and easy from beginning to end. My husband and I were looking for beautiful, understated music for our wedding ceremony. We were thrilled to find Jess who was so professional, friendly, and confident. The music for our ceremony was beautiful and seamless. Considering her incredible talent, we found her price more than fair. On such a special day, it means a lot to feel totally confident in the people who are contributing to the events, and that's how we felt about Jess. I can't recommend her highly enough.
Price Range: $200-900
Jessica's musical education started at the age of eight, when she studied piano in Newton, Kansas. Then three years later she began to study the cello in middle school with Susan Mayo. Her principle teachers since then have been Dr. Andrew Kolb and Jeffrey Lastrapes. She was a student of Alison Wells, first at the Cleveland Institute of Music before transferring to Peabody Conservatory to continue study. She will continue study with Mihai Tetel at the Hartt School. During various summer music festivals Jessica has studied with Wesley Baldwin, Matt Haimovitz, Melissa Kraut, Thomas Landschoot, and Richard Weiss. As a chamber musician, Jessica has studied with Michael Kannen, Maria Lambros, Merry Peckham, Peter Salaff, Mari Sato, and Alison Wells.
Jessica has been a member of several orchestras, including the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, the Quartz Mountain Chamber Orchestra, the Newton Mid-Kansas Symphony Orchestra, the World Orchestra at the Interlochen Arts Camp where she performed alongside Sarah Chang, the Imani Winds, and several renowned conductors, among others. She was a finalist in the Music Teachers National Association regional competition. As the winner of the Anderson Concerto Competition she performed the Boccherini cello concerto with the Hutchinson Symphony. Most recently she has been the principal cellist of the Hartt Symphony Orchestra.
Community outreach and inspiring musical interest in kids and adults has always been very important for Jessica. Since her first chamber group in high school, she has been presenting music in schools and the community. The cello studio at Peabody with Alison Wells has gone to local high schools to perform Villa Lobos Bacchianas Brasilieras and to give masterclasses. On her own, she has received a grant from Peabody to create projects that involve combining visual art with music at an elementary school of Baltimore's BRIDGES program. She has also been Peabody's Creative Access volunteer of the month in 2009.
In May 2012 Jessica completed a Masters degree in Cello performance at the Hartt School of Music of the University of Hartford on full scholarship. At the Hartt School Jessica was part of their honors chamber program, Performance 20-20. She continues her love of chamber music performance while seeking out new interests such as contemporary music and creative collaborative projects.
For solo cello events, Jessica will provide a Bose L1 Compact amplifying system.
