Johnny Oberly is a dynamic singer-songwriter and Native American Flute performer. Playing and songwriting now for over 20 years, Johnny has played for a wide range of audiences, from the local coffee shops to romantic weddings to a concert stage...Johnny is always ready to perform music to fit the occation. Johnny Oberly has a CD featured on itunes and rhapsody entitled "CREATOR BE WITH US" a collection of 12 original flute compositions and 4 contemporary Native American acoustic songs.
Johnny is currently promoting his latest CD called "BACK TO YESTERDAY"(2009), In 2009 Johnny also had the opportunity to travel to Germany and Greece for 5 week tour of solo-acoustic performances in: Ausbach, Rodgau, Rothenburg (the Old West Ranch), Bad Murienburg and Veria (Greece). "...traveling to Europe to perform was an incredible experience and I can't wait to get back there and do it again. I met a lot of great people...and was truly blessed to have the chance to share my music abroad!"
In the beginning of 2006, Johnny played with a band called the "Nuclear Grizzlies..." then moved on in late 2006 and 2007 to play with the band "Out From The Shadows..." Rejoining the band in 2008 the band went through some other personnel changes and now call themeselves "DARKSKY" you can listen and see samples from this band at (link hidden) in Tucson clubs like THE ROCK - GOOCH'S - CLUB CONGRESS. For DARK SKY Johnny plays guitar and bass as well as lead-vocals... An eclectic performer, he also was a featured performer at the Westward Look Resort in Tucson, AZ from (phone number hidden)7, playing primarily Native American Flute and solo-acoustic music. Johnny plays a variety of Native American flutes...from traditional Cedar flutes, to Pine, Cane, and other hard-woods. Johnny also moved back to Colorado briefly in (phone number hidden)8 (somewhere in there) and he played briefly with the Durango band "Dawn of Apocalypse."
Johnny has also had the opportunity to play music for the University of Arizona's (2006-09): Graduation ceremonies, AILDI receptions, Art Exhibitions, Classroom Demonstrations, and Miss Native UA Competition. "...I am always honored to play music for the UofA and I always feel that my performances are greatly appreciated by the audience."
In 2008 Johnny was very honored to have the opportunity to travel to Missoula, MT to perform at the Missoula Indian Center. "...the Missoula Indian Center is a great center and a really nice group of people work there. I really enjoyed my time in Missoula." Also in 2008, Johnny performed at Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL...doing storytelling and flute performance. "...I really felt like I had a chance to break down some stereotypes with this particular performance...mainly because of the question and answer session that spontaineously happened after the performance. It was a very powerful performance..."
Johnny is also intersted in speaking particularly to Native American youth. He have been a counselor and has worked in prevention for over 10 years. He has presented to national audiences through the National Native Tobacco conferences and the University of Oklahoma's Men's and Women's Wellness conferences, regarding "storytelling" related to Traditional & Sacred Native Tobacco use. He has also been a White Bison facilitator & firestarter for 10 years and would love to speak on his experiences working with this program and regarding the wellbriety movement...blending this presentation with his music and storytelling, and offering a unique and powerful presentation on Native American wellness.
