I’ve thoroughly enjoyed several Sentimental Journey 17 musician Big Band concerts and events. This group brings the music a perfect level of musicianship, love of the music, and energy that Wows every person in their audience. Together with their singer Altha Morton who delivers the vocal so we can experience how it was performed in the Swing era. Additionally, Altha delivers the stories and impact many of the song brought to the people at that time including WWII. 17 great musicians deliver one big band huge sound…. Check them out!

This 17 member group is known for authentic performances of the songs that brought us through the most challenging years of the 20th century, always with a theme that connects to the audiences of today. Our band has sold out large venues such as the Algonquin Arts Theater (500 seats) and the Grunin Center at Ocean County College. Sentimental Journey continued to perform through the pandemic, building our large email list that we would love to invite to your venue. The instruments we play use minimal sound reinforcement and would take full advantage of any acoustic space.

She is a professional songwriter belonging to ASCAP and has performed at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville and the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame celebration in New York City. Altha taught music in two public school districts and had award winning bands.
Music Director Curt Morton brings to life the swing and jazz that lifted the spirit of a country facing tremendous challenges. His long journey as clarinetist, saxophonist, singer and conductor has visited many genres of music but the path has led him back to a place where music is partly arranged and partly improvised! His education included a study of Big Band Music with Tommy Tucker and Jazz with Gary Burton. Curt says “The Sentimental Journey Big Band brings a fresh approach to our music, yet still shows respect for the stars of the past.”
The group was formed in 1991 by Frank Richetti who gathered some of the very same musicians who played in the well known bands of the 30’s and 40’s. Frank played trumpet with the 2nd Marine Air Wing Band during World War II; he toured and performed with local bands until he was 96. Frank organized a group of players who really love the music; he truly carried on the tradition of the “Swing Era.”
Primarily, the band performs indoors where we require lighting, chairs, and access to electricity in the performance space. If the band is outdoors, we need all of the above and shade from the sun. We prefer to have an indoor venue as a back up to outdoor performances.
The 30's and 40's were a time when great music was popular, and popular music was well written! We would be happy to discuss our set list.
