Lighting and sound are an important part of any professional show, to give your guests the best experience please provide a clean, open space for Shining to perform, with a sound system that can accommodate either CD or MP3 players, loud and clear enough to be heard in every corner of the room.
Many prop options are available and will change the size of the space needed but a good rule of thumb is at least a 10' x10' space with a clean floor and no low hanging chandeliers or ceiling fans.
Shining has always been strongly influenced by videos of dancers from the "Golden Age" of the Egyptian Cinema, from Tahia Carioca to Fifi Abdou, the dance stars of Egypt have been the subject of endless study and fascination, but Nabaweya Mustafa, remains a top inspiration.
Shining began to study Egyptian Belly Dance and many folk dances from the surrounding regions, with American born career dancer A'isha Azar after being introduced to bellydance through American fusion/offbranches with other teachers a few years prior.
She became a member of A'isha's professional dance company Baharat!!, and assisted in the creation and presentation of their twice yearly narrated shows featuring skits and dances from across the Middle East, North Africa and the Arabian Gulf before moving to the Seattle region where she was strongly influenced by her studies with Helene Erikson (Dance Ethnologist and director of ANAR DANA International Dance Theater), Sahra Kent (Dance Ethnologist and founder of the "Journey Through Egypt" course), Mish Mish (Karavans Dance Troupe) and later Nisaa (Heather Ward, author of "Egyptian Dance in Transition").
Shining moved to Egypt in 2021 to immerse herself in the culture and deepen her research on traditional entertainment, spending more than a year in Luxor to learn from Khyria Mazin and build an online school on the the Mazin family legacy. BAsed now in Cairo, She continues to learn and grow as a performer and educator, bringing new insights and experiences with her when she periodically visits the US.
