I like to bring a high energy show. Expect the rock side of country with some original songs and rock medleys in the mix.
Some artists create an identity when they move to Nashville, while others are born with one. South Carolina native Warren Garrett certainly fits with the latter.
As a child, he lifted a pair of CDs from his mom’s collection -- Hank Williams Jr. and Stevie Ray Vaughn records -- and the rest is history.
Some kids play football or little league baseball as hobbies. Others may take up arts or pour themselves into school work. Garrett’s only hobby as a kid, when he wasn’t working with his dad, was simply music.
Garrett cut his chops as a lead guitar player in local rock bands, while also learning the back end of production as a sound engineer for a live music venue. He’d never considered fronting a band until one night one of the bands heard him singing as he worked as the sound technician and asked him if he’d like to come up during the show to sing a song or two.
Hook, line, sinker.
While his parents weren’t musicians, they certainly didn’t pull their son away from a budding passion. That support system allowed Garrett a chance to hone his skills as a guitarist and to find the roots of his identity as a future artist.
His dad bought him his first electric guitar when Garrett was 13 years old, but before even learning to play a chord he was writing songs with melodies in his head.
At 21-and-bulletproof, Garrett moved to Nashville where he found himself bouncing at two of the rowdiest bars in downtown Nashville -- Tootsie’s and Coyote Ugly. Working from 10 a.m. to 3 a.m., there was never a dull moment, though there were plenty of times when he’d ask himself, ‘What was I thinking?’
After a few conversations around downtown, Garrett began focusing on the kind of artist he wanted to be, and that self-reflection continuously came back to those first two records he stole from his mother.
That southern rock-turned-country style is evident in live shows and his recordings. With those loud rock guitar licks, however, comes down-to-earth, relatable lyrics. Pulling inspiration from those car trips with his parents when the radio could be on any station playing any style music, Garrett shows his versatility when necessary.
While rock music’s big guitars and energy is certainly on the forefront, listeners of Garrett’s music may also find notes of Vaughn and old school blues legend Robert Johnson along with those rock and outlaw country vibes.
Garrett has found a unique way to pull those influences together and create an identity of his own in Music City.
“If I’m going to write and put out music, I’m going to be raw and real and 100% me.”
We do not typically travel with production gear at this time. We are flexible and could help you hire out someone for production.
