By Matt Holland

In this month’s talent spotlight, we feature Jared Violin, a talented violinist and savvy entrepreneur. By developing a unique style, gaining diverse experiences, and being true to himself, Jared has had a successful career as a musician. Read on to learn more about his success story and gain insights into marketing, client communication, and using GigSalad to grow your business.

Becoming a Violinist

From the early days of studying music to memorable performances, Jared shared with us his path to becoming a professional violinist and what keeps his passion alive.

Early Days and Inspiration

Jared has been a musician since a very young age. Reflecting on the beginning, he credits his mother, an elementary music teacher, with establishing his love for music. He shares, “She introduced me to music, and we explored the options to start performing. The violin and piano is where we landed!” It wasn’t long before Jared realized that being a musician was more than a hobby. Reflecting on this, he said, “I knew that this would be my career by the age of 13 when I received my first paycheck of $75 to play in a chamber group. I was hooked!”

While Jared is experienced with classical performances and plays for any event, his unique style sets him apart from other violinists. Discussing his influences, he says, “Modern artists like Boyd Tinsley of the Dave Matthews Band and country music icon Charlie Daniels showed me that playing the violin could be something different than just sitting in a symphony setting with 50 other musicians.” This combination of classical training and modern inspiration has led him to an electric and engaging performance style.

Memorable Moments and the Future

Jared has had the opportunity to share the stage with some incredible talent, from Natasha Bedingfield to Styx to John Lodge. When reflecting on a particularly memorable performance, he said, “In 2008, I had the complete honor to open up as a featured musician in the first cirque show of its kind on Broadway, in the Broadway Theatre on 53rd. Walking to the downstage center at my cue and seeing my family in the front row is a memory that will forever feel like a moment that I had truly made it.”

Even through challenges, Jared remains passionate by staying focused on his love for music. “There could be 10 or 10,000 people in the audience; I love the music, so I play just the same. Continually working on my craft and sharing that with others is what keeps me motivated.” Looking forward, Jared said, “Multiple corporate events, with dates national and international on the calendar, keep me focused and excited for the trajectory that my career continues to go!”

JV: The best way is to respond immediately. Setting up text notifications for leads allows me to instantly respond to inquiries and get potential clients the information they need.

GS: Your past clients have written some very glowing reviews. How do you ensure each client is happy? Do you ask specific questions leading up to the event or take any special steps at the event?

Words of Wisdom

GS: What advice did you receive from a mentor early in your career that impacted you?

JV: Be yourself. I don’t fit the mold of what a “normal” violinist is supposed to look like. At 6’5”, I always stood out. So, I leaned into that for my career. I found a way to continue to set myself apart and use that as a tool, not a hindrance.

GS: For artists considering joining GigSalad, what would you say are the biggest benefits of being on the platform?

JV: The exposure to leads, potential clients, and serious inquiries is the best aspect that GigSalad provides. With the user-friendly platform, the ease of communication with clients is a priority, all while showcasing the product I can provide.
