In this month’s member spotlight, we heard from David N. Chico, a successful Los Angeles videography and photography company. He graciously shared his success story as a videographer, described his experience with GigSalad, and offered some helpful, professional insight. Read on to be inspired by David’s infectious passion and creative journey!
Becoming a Videographer/Photographer
David N. Chico, a talented videographer, photographer, and founder of All Themes Videos and Photos, discovered his passion for storytelling early on. “Ever since I was a small boy, I would use cell phone cameras to document videos of the fun adventures I had with my family and friends,” he reminisces, “I grew up watching all sorts of movies on VHS and DVD and would wait for the credits to finish so I could check out the behind-the-scenes specials.”
With a natural gift of storytelling and creating characters, David pursued his dream by enrolling in a trade school for Video Production right after high school. His career began on independent film sets, first as a production assistant, then as a camera PA and 2nd AC. However, the demanding hours pushed him to start his own video agency, seeking freedom and a chance to pursue his passions.
Today, David leads a team of talented videographers and photographers while balancing his role as a real estate agent. Looking ahead, he has big dreams for his company and its growth. He wants to serve as many clients as possible in Los Angeles and hopes to produce feature films and documentaries one day. His long-term goal is to have one branch of his company dedicated to event videography and another to cinematic productions.
David’s GigSalad Journey
Since joining GigSalad in the fall of 2023, David has quickly become highly successful on the platform. His passion for the craft, combined with his communication skills and business savvy, has led to many bookings and positive reviews. For this member spotlight, he shared his GigSalad journey with us, as well as thoughtful insights and tips for success.
Using GigSalad
GS: How did you first hear about GigSalad, and what drew you to join the platform?
DC: A friend of mine told me that a friend of his uses GigSalad as a live music performer. He told me
to give it a try. I created an account and never looked back.
GS: What do you love about this industry? What keeps you motivated to continue working as
a videographer and photographer?
DC: I love the places I get to travel to, and I love being able to tap into cinematic creativity. When I first started on GigSalad, I remember telling myself that one day, I was going to be the #1 Videography service on GigSalad in the Los Angeles region. And seeing that goal is now accomplished, well that in itself is my motivation, remembering that promise I made myself.
GS: Are there any tools/features that have led you to more success or make the process of advertising/being booked easier?
DC: I’m old school when it comes to advertising. I like direct outreach, cold calling, business cards, and word-of-mouth referrals. GigSalad’s system is perfectly aligned with my business strategy. The booking and deposit payout process is secure. And their customer support team is productive.
Client Communication
GS: How do you communicate with potential clients to increase their likelihood of hiring
you? Do you have any techniques that have worked for you?
DC: When I receive a lead, I waste no time. I immediately call the potential client and make sure that we form a friendly bond. First impressions are everything. I speak to them the way I would want someone speaking to me — as if I’m speaking to my best friend or family member.
My clients are not just dollar signs to me. I put myself in their shoes and provide them with a quote that fits their needs. A lot of times, potential clients get rejected by Videographers who let greed influence their quotes. I’m not like that. These clients might be with us for a lifetime. And their loyalty and long-term business is the most important.
GS: You have amazing reviews from your past clients! How do you ensure your clients are satisfied and
receive precisely what they envision?
DC: A lot of it has to do with being a positive person and servicing them well. Becoming familiar with their event and being on the same page. Being punctual and understanding towards their budget. My confidence in All Themes Video is displayed through my voice, and the clients pick up on that. Communication is key!

Memorable Moments
GS: How has GigSalad impacted your career as a videographer?
DC: Our first million-dollar company we served was Tony Romas Restaurants, which is a household name in Los Angeles. The CEO was happy and impressed by our work. This was a big milestone for All Themes Video because we are now networked with leaders in the family restaurant business. GigSalad provided that for us.
GS: Can you share a project you’re particularly proud of and why it stands out to you?
DC: The majority of the events I’ve covered for clients are live events, weddings, funerals, and corporate videos. But one day, I got a lead from a heavy metal rock band that wanted a music video produced by All Themes. My visual style of videography tends to be more intimate, harmonious, and heartfelt, but this music video required more of an edgy, dark, and aggressive visual style. This gave me the opportunity to create a duality style of harmonious and smooth cinematography mixed with aggressive performances by the band members. The band loved the final video.

Words of Wisdom
GS: In your opinion, what does it take to be a successful videographer and photographer?
DC: Anyone can be a videographer or photographer. But to be successful takes more than picking up a camera and pressing a record button. That’s only 10% of the job. 90% of it is sales, business development, negotiating, and customer service. Learn and master the business side of it first and then focus on the fun part, like camera gear, style, etc. Learn the skills it takes to be a leader. This business model has allowed us to be power players in the GigSalad Los Angeles videography category.
GS: If you could give some advice to someone considering joining GigSalad, what would it be?
DC: Be consistent, follow up with your leads, and treat people the way you want to be treated. No matter what. Don’t let your ego keep you from advancing. Never think you are too good for a client. You have to be willing to go through the dirt before you find gold. And trust God.
