Overview

Mouth Council is a spontaneous group vocal-looping experience facilitated by Billy Mays III.

Each performance is completely unique as he gathers a circle of volunteers and invites them to contribute improvised vocal samples which he then mixes into one-of-a-kind songs on the spot.

He encourages each circle - comprised of strangers, fellow musicians, friends, temporary bandmates - that they "can't do anything wrong” as the microphone is passed around like a 21st-century talking stick.

Every Mouth Council session is an electronically-supported culmination of human collaboration that lives and dies in the present moment.

Transforming playfulness into soundscape magic!

Mouth Council is life changing!
It challenges your doubts of being musical or creative and takes a small contribution and transforms it into an immersive, playful and moving soundscape. It doesn’t matter if your skill level is a brilliant singer/musician or can just make funny sounds into a microphone. The sounds you add matters and it is all used to create a beautiful collaboration.
This experience brought me closer to the folks around me and helped me imagine so many more possibilities.
Truly grateful

Booking information

Price range: $500 – $2,500 per event

Languages: English

Gig length: 10 - 90 minutes

What to expect

Expect a surprisingly fun time making music with your friends, even if they're not musicians!

I arrive with a briefcase and speakers (if needed) and find a little space for the circle.

Next, I lay out colored cushions for the participants (standing sessions are available as well).

When we begin, I invite volunteers to choose a cushion and introduce then give loose instructions/prompts for what's about to happen.

The experience works in short bursts or longer sessions, depending on the context within the event.

About

Back in 2012, Billy Mays III (AKA Infinite Third) discovered a simple way to involve friends and family in his music, regardless of whether or not they considered themselves “musicians.” In the year that followed, his idea of handing people a microphone and creating a safe environment for free vocal expression had grown into a formal offering; a captivating and refreshingly-inclusive experience called Mouth Council.

Now, over a decade later, Billy continues to explore the possibilities of the project.

Each session is an electronically-supported culmination of human collaboration that lives and dies in the present moment.
