We have the best of jazz and pop music. Mr. Charlie Washington will thrill you with the music of Sammy Davis Jr.. Ms. Inez Williams sings music of Billie Holiday and Nathalie Cole. Bobby Cottonwood is great as he sings Frank Sinatra or Tom Jones music.
Our horn players are gifted in their own right. Charlie Williamson is amazing when he does some Miles Davis,Herb Alpert, Hugh Masakela,or a Count Basie tune.
On saxes we have Sid The Kid and Sly Patman, both are excellant performers ansd great showmen. Dennis Daniel plays trombone. He brings many years of experience and adds a colorful sound to our band.
I was born in the Mississippi Delta, but my parents moved us to Chicago when I was two years old. I played bugle in high school, and later played trumpet. I studied trumpet with Mr. Bill Babcock of The Boston and Chicago Symphony while taking music education classes at Sherwood Music Conservatory in Chicago.
In a short time (1 ½ yrs.), I was hanging out and playing in blues and jazz clubs, which lead to recording for an unknown R&B singer, Tyrone Davis. Little Richard was in Chicago and needed a trumpet player, so I said yes. This was my first road gig. I saw Washington, DC and N.Y.C. for the first time with his band. When we played the Apollo and I was so impressed with NYC. I moved there. I did an LP album with Mongo Santamaria, and played with Thad Jones/ Mel Jones big band for four weeks at the Village Vanguard, where I had sat in on Freddie Hubbard’s gig. I was well received by fellow musicians, such as Max Roach, who took me around town to meet others, (Pharaoh Sanders, Billy Harper ect.). Another great musician, Herbie Hancock invited me to his home and gave me advice on my composition skills. I also played with Sun Ra at the Boston Jazz Festival. While in Philadelphia, I performed shows with Patti Labelle and Al Gray. This band also included Johnny Coles. When Hank Mobley came back to USA from France, he was kind enough to be my roommate for a few months. A great experience, he was doing a recording on Blue Note and shared his new songs with me. At the same time I was in the studio with Mongo Santamaria.
These are some of the people who have inspired me to keep playing and creating music. My composition “Night Crawler”, was recorded by Mongo and was used on the Dating Game TV show.
