Great blues, great harmonica, and very professional and well executed. An excellent performance!
Really enjoyed having these guys perform. Super professional & easy to work with. Will hire them again!
Red and the crew were amazing. From the beginning, he was in constant contact helping to plan the show. They were early to set up and delivered a great performance, reading the audience and developing the set list as they went along. My son loved every minute and even got some tips from the guitarist after the show. I couldn’t recommend them more highly and will definitely use them again.

Solid quality, on-time, consistent and affordable performances are provided. A minimal amount of "set-up" space is required, so that little or no revenue generating space is required. Music genre and selections evaluated per venue to suit specific age groups and tastes of patrons. DB levels are monitored during performances to maintain desired levels.
Additional "pieces" may be added to A Good Excuse for larger events (add bass guitar, drums, percussion, brass-section, etc.).
A Good Excuse is a "flexible" group of talent that offers live performances for a variety of occassions. The "core" of A Good Excuse is an acoustic/electric Solo with vocals or a Duo (with Jazz Guitar Accompaniment) that is tailored for each venue event genre and budget. The Solo or Duo can be slated towards Jazz, R&B/R&R, Blues, Americana, Current/Classic Country, Pop, or original music.
If the event requires a larger sound, A Good Excuse can be expanded to a duo or trio and include "electric" lead guitar, "electric" bass guitar, percussion, brass (trumpet/sax), harmonica, stage lighting and auditorium sound reinforcement.
Red is a 5th generation Texan - raised in "rural" Harris County - when Jackrabbit Road was a two lane FM road and you could hear a car coming from 5 miles away - and when the corner of Claymore & Piney Point was a 30 acre farm that supported three families.
A Good Excuse is currently working the Greater Austin/Belton/Georgetown/Temple/Waco/Bryan-College Station/Tomball/Cypress/Houston areas, performing with an acoustic guitar & providing vocals solo) and adding Jazz "Lead" Guitar provided by Austins own Jay LeBlanc. When Red returns to the Greater Houston area, at certain times, accompaniment is provided by Tom Hays who has been bringing that awesome R&B/R&R lead guitar and incredible vocals that has been a menu item in the Gulf Coast Region for many years - or maybe with Joe Frey who brings a highly developed and soulful harmonica sound that was originated in Louisiana and continues to be "polished" in Southern Texas traditions.
Red's been feelin' the blues since the 50's--with influences from artists such as Jimmy Reed, B.B. King, ZZ Hill, Albert Collins, Freddy King, Eric Clapton, ZZ Top and many more.
The years of playing and touring as part of a Contemporary Gospel group has always been a part of the "musical puzzle" that makes up Red Watterson & A Good Excuse and helps define the many styles of music and vocals.
Current varied artists - including Keith Urban, Rob Thomas, Adele, Michael Buble and Clay Walker - continue to add to the multiple dialects of A Good Excuse. The diversity of music adds flavor and interest as performances of A Good Excuse are "sprinkled" around town.
A Good Excuse is available for private functions and public functions.
No special requirements. Standard 20 amp breaker for electronics. For summertime outdoor events, a portable shelter is requested to provide protection from the sun.
