We offer a unique cultural dance experience fueled by recorded music and beats from around the world, as well as live percussion instruments. Our team fuses Hip Hop, Afro-beat, Latin, Caribbean and traditional West African dance to create an experience that will inspire positive trans- formation, uplift the Spirit and ignite the souls of the participants. Through our model we engage our audience by creating a safe space for all to interact with the team as a way of connecting the attendees to create a community where we use movement as medicine to empower the soul. The majority of our performances are accompanied by live drum (Djembe and Dun Dun) as well as the Kora and Shekere.

Afreesol movement is a therapeutic/motivational experience that embodies the importance/beauty of building community through movement. We offer our clients educational/performance services through an array of expressions with an emphasis on dance/movement. Through the Afreesol movement model we encourage participants to explore freedom from stagnation of the mundane humdrum of the times.
One of the unique components of our approach is the ability to instruct individuals with sensitive needs. Our team of professionals are trained in a variety of techniques that are inclusive and effective for all ages and abilities. Along this creative journey it has been very rewarding to witness clients transform through the drumming in both instructional and performance modalities.
Because our showcase is primarily drum and dance the need for sound is hardly an issue, however if the client wants a dance performance then the need of a sound system that can plug into an iPad or cellphone may be necessary.

We typically perform West African Drum and Dance numbers that fit the theme of the program. For instance if the gig calls for a more celebratory rhythm then we have content for the specific situation. If the theme is for the healing of the community then the rhythm will consist of Drum and Dance songs that fir the mood. So it really depends on what the client is looking for. We can accommodate a wide range of movement and sound/music to fit the theme.
Our group is heavily inspired by Kathrine Dunham…Lots of our content mirrors her style. Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre is another influential group. Furthermore our group gleans heavily on the influence of West Africa.
