I'm an acoustic guitarist/composer & arranger with 25 years of professional playing experience. Located in San Diego, my dad showed me my first chords on his Spanish Guitar when I was 12 years old and I've been hooked on that beautiful sound ever since!
I'm a versatile guitarist and who is comfortable playing different styles of music from Classical, Flamenco, & Latin Jazz to Jazz standards, Bossa Nova, Mariachi, World Music and beyond. When I perform my music compositions they have been described as having "exciting guitar passages coupled with enchanting melodies that creates a sound that lingers in the listener's ear long after the performance.”

Alex played at my wedding for the ceremony and the cocktail hour and he was amazing! His playing was beautiful. He played a wonderful mix of spanish and popular music. We received many compliments regading the atmosphere that he help to create and I would recommend him to anyone! Also, he was one of the few venders that actually made it on time to the wedding due to an insane amount of rain! Thanks Alex!

Alex was absolutely fantastic!! We got married a couples months ago, and so glad we found him to play for our ceremony and cocktail hour. We were looking for someone that could play some classical/spanish guitar, some traditional wedding songs (including special requests), and then kick it up a notch with some lively jazz and flamenco for the cocktail hour. Alex nailed it every time. He really set the mood for the wedding and got everyone ready for a fun reception. His girlfriend even helped us cue the bridal party so the timing was perfect! I hired Mariachis through Alex Guillen and had a great experience from start to finish. He was very helpful when i told him my budget and worked with me to get the best fit for my event. The Mariachis he sent to my event showed up on time and looked and sounded great. I was going to hire another group prior to contacting Gig masters and they double booked and were not able to provide me with the security I needed. Alex sent me a contract right away and I wa able to put a deposit down with my credit card online. It was easy and no surprises or disappointments, all was as stated on the contract. I met Alex Guillen when I enrolled in his samba/bossa nova workshop. I found Alex to be knowledgeable about the subject and adept at being able to teach all levels of experience in the same class. I've attended jam sessions with Alex and was impressed by his versatility to play different styles of music from Latin to jazz to standards to songs from the 1970s and 1980s. His original composition of "Eclipse" is so compelling, I posted it on my Facebook wall and have received positive feedback about it. Alex has been the organizer of the Afro Cuban collective. He led the musical sessions, selected pieces to play and also conducted sectionals. He also plays different and diverse gigs covering many styles including flamenco, bossa nova, bolero, etc. which makes him an asset for any small band since he can also double as bass player. His niche is in acoustical guitar and he is a devoted musician who does not do this part time but with a full immersion passion. Alex is always at his best to play or rehearse so he will be the go to person for your corporate event (guitar background), any other events or to have on board for recording sessions or musical projects.
Alex and myself have performed for many events in the past two years. As a solo artist, Alex is very entertaining and has the ability to play classical, rumba, bossa nova and flamenco styles. He is also a very good jazz artist.
In the few times I had the opportunity to interact with Alex in a musical setting he has always organizes and leads the event with great proffesionalism and in a fun and learning way!
It is with such joy that I have watched Alex grow and become the professional musician that he is today. He was already a fine guitarist when he came to our music department many years ago, and now he has established himself firmly in the musical community. Alex is an extremely agile and talented guitarist able to play tunes from the genres of flamenco, jazz, latin jazz with great skill and ease. I sang with him on numerous occasions and his accompaniment to my vocals was very instinctive and a perfect complement to my singing. He was able to take a number of requests because of his vast repetoire. A definite crowd pleaser!

Alex is talented professional musician who I have had the pleasure of hearing play guitar several times. One of his mentors is a guitarist from the Grammy-nominated group, Strunz and Farah, and it shows in Alex's exceptional guitar playing. He is also the leader of the Afro-Cuban Collective--a group of both seasoned and amateur musicians who come together monthly to jam on various Afro-Cuban songs. He is excellent at conducting our group and getting us to sound pretty good despite the fact that different people show up each time, and we have very varied skill levels. As one of the amateur vocalists in the group, I have taken a couple of workshops from Alex. He is extremely knowledgable and a very patient teacher. It is always a pleasure to work with Alex!
Alex works as hard as any guitarist I have ever seen or heard. He is really getting rich sound and good color from the guitar. Alex is also a great guy to work with. A genuinely nice guy.
