This ain't no ordinary tribute band

Saw All Star Purple Party in October 2021. I had traveled from Minneapolis, MN to Washington D.C. area for a week vacation. I had never been to the area before. So being from Minneapolis I have seen several bands that like to do Prince music. Some even dress like him. I knew from the start that front man Junie Henderson was GoGo music legend. I knew he came from the E.U.Band with their hit song Da Butt. I had also talked with former Prince & New Power Generation member Mike Scott about my planned trip. Mike is a D.C. native and encouraged me to go see Allstar Purple Party. He assured me that even with his time playing with Prince that he use to play a lot of shows with Allstar Purple Party and he assured me I would not be disappointed. So my last night in D.C. I was off to see Allstar Purple Party. I had so much fun. Junie does dress like Prince but it crazy how once he’s in the costumes and takes the stage. There just an air about it. I can’t explain it but his band is the only tribute band that I’ve seen that genuinely felt authentic. I didn’t get the impression he was trying to be LIKE PRINCE but was paying homage to the legend. I live in Minneapolis and if I could afford the trips back and forth I would attend their shows more

About

Edward "Junie" Henderson was born in Washington, DC at Howard University. His group Experience Unlimited "EU" was Grammy nominated, a Soul Train Award winner recipient in 1988 and in 20 1 6, was inducted in the African American History Museum on the mall in Washington DC. He has & top ten singles with "EU" and was the lead vocalist and song writer for the band.
He has performed on The Arsenio Hall show, Soul Train twice, the Apollo and has toured every major and Black Historic College in the country. Ed was featured with Spike Lee in the movie School Daze, the song "DA BUTT" was a number I hit. He was the lead vocalist on songs such as "Taste of Your Love", , "Sang on Da Butt" and "Shake Your Thang with Salt and Pepper. Ed has worked with the famous base player, Marcus Miller, has toured with Morris Day and the Time, Charlie Wilson and Fantasia, among others. He has performed on the Fantastic Voyage with Tom Joyner a few times. And is known for bringing the party!"
He has a span of over 30 years of music in the Washington, DC region with Go-Go while performing with the late Chuck Brown, EU and Trouble Funk. He has toured with so many artists, such as Stevie Wonder, Guy and New Edition. He is now introducing Gospel Go-Go to the Gospel community while embracing his 30 years of experience. Ed Henderson has been the director of the Comfort Ministry at Ebenezer AME in Fort Washington, MD for over 10 years. He has served as Music Director for Congress Heights UMC and Ebenezer UMC on Capitol Hill. Ed is currently working with some of the New Power Generation guys also known as NPG, a group that the late Prince formed to back him up in concert and music productions. Ed Henderson now performs live tribute impersonations of the artist Prince. As a lover of Prince music from the start, the connection is natural. He sounds like Prince and looks like Prince.
