Don Michael Horton Jr., better know as Alreddy Reddy, was born in Birmingham, AL but was raised in Fairfield, AL. Although growing up in a Christian household and raised by both parents, Reddy knows that even with the right teaching and support, anyone can be led astray like he was. All too familiar with being the odd man out. Experiencing ridicule and hate by his peers for being the black kid with red hair, and attending six different schools before age twelve, Reddy set out to prove just how much he would stand out.
While attending Tennessee State University, he made a name for himself as the party-guy, the club-goer, screaming his signature “muddy call” until he was the last on the floor. He was known as “Red Daddy” joining his first group, “Sump New” which ultimately disbanded. Reddy, intent on success went on to sign with Rasvalley Music label and eventually opening for rap artist, Juvenile. Continuing on that course, Reddy found himself facing 15 years in prison for second-degree assault while defending himself. Reddy, also having a former label mate go to prison for murder, left him feeling his influence should be used for a greater, positive purpose. It was then; year 2004, after the passing of his Grandfather that Reddy answered the call he felt to “show this generation how to be unashamed for God.
Melodic hooks, a steady bass line and the layered texture of instrumentation are more than a complement to the passionate lyrics of Alreddy Reddy. Having shared the stage with many international artists including Marvin Sapp, Fred Hammond, Lisa McClendon, Canton Jones, Deitrick Haddon, Ruben Studdard, and the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, his adaptability is as versatile as his style. “Reddy is bridging the gaps between hip-hop, gospel and inspirational hip-hop. Reddy’s music is friendly to both adults and kids,” Gary Crockett of Branae Music Group has said about Reddy’s musicality. His first full completed album self-titled, “Alreddy Reddy,” due to be released in the Spring of 2013, has already created an intense buzz in both the inspirational and secular hip hop circuits. Its pumping energetic tracks like “Amped UP” intermingled with his more mellow styles create a polished sound-scape sure to garner not only listeners’ ears, but also, as Reddy hopes, their hearts. His signature tagline “OnNigh” is as much of a trademark as his intricately braided, red hair. OnNigh is a word I use to motivate, and it’s also short for Come’on now!” Reddy laughs, this same witty wordplay interwoven throughout his songs.
“If you’re not helping people, you’re hurting them. I want to help,” he quips about his reasons for pursuing music and what he wants to achieve during his career. That intent is highlighted center stage through his many events and community outreach. The power of influence through music can engage and transform a person in many ways. My goal is to engage and transform, not just lives, but souls,” he states, “ I hope to impact nations by imparting to the world God’s inspiration through motivational music.” With his ever-pressing passion and relentless commitment, Reddy poses to do just that. “OnNigh!”
