About
Grammy nominee Ariacne was born in Havana, Cuba, where she began her career as a child prodigy at the age of 4. Blessed with perfect pitch,she obtained masters awards and special mentions in national and international competitions and gave concerts in the main halls and theaters of the country. At the age of 14, she was chosen as soloist of the Symphonic Orchestra of Matanzas and Santiago de Cuba. While working as a lead singer, dancer and pianist at the legendary Cabaret Tropicana at the age of 18, she studied at the University of the
Arts of Cuba.
In 2002 she moved to New York City after winning a fellowship in classical composition at the Virginia
Center for the Creative Arts. Since then, she has participated in numerous important projects, such
as the New York Times acclaimed 14-piece band “La Bola”, where she was musical director,composer, arranger, pianist and vocalist. In addition, she was the lead vocalist, pianist and arranger for the Pedrito Martinez Group for over 7 years, where she performed at many of the most important jazz festivals around the world, such as:
Red Sea Jazz Fest, Newport Jazz Fest, Umbria Jazz Fest, Montreaux Jazz Fest, Peruggia Jazz Fest, Daegu International Jazz Fest, Murton Percussion Fest, San Francisco Jazz Fest, Feria de Cali, etc.
She graduated with a Suma Cum Laude degree in Bachelor of Music from New Jersey City University
and also holds a Master's degree in Jazz Performance majoring in Voice and Piano. In 2018, she accepted the position of music director for the Off-Broadway production Carmen to Havana and Back,where she performed with her (link hidden) 2022, she was pianist for another Off-Broadway production “My Broken
Language”, written and directed by Alegria and supervised by Alex Lacamore. One of Trujillo's compositions was included in Terri Lyne Carrington's New Standards,published by the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice.
In her career she has performed, shared the stage and recorded with legends such as Paul Simon,Paquito D. Rivera, Wynton Marsalis, Steve Gadd,Jhonny Pacheco, John Scofield, Justo Betancourt,Diego El Cigala, Alain Pérez, Alex Blake, JimmyBush, Gloria Trevi, Isaac Delgado,Esperanza and many more.
Ariacne’s extensive vocal technique ranges from opera to jazz, where she develops a wide register from which she phrases using methods and colors typical of R&B, Funk,Blues, and Soul. This range of genres can be heard
in her arrangements and compositions, all with a high level of development and adapted for each of
her different projects, be it her Trio, Quartet or Quintet. Her experience as an educator includes clinics at Berklee College of Music, New York University, Berklee Valencia,Lehman College and Duke (link hidden)so, as a Private Tutor at the Mannes and New School of Music. Since 2019 she serves as a professor at the Jazz
Faculty of New Jersey City University.One of Ariacne’s compositions was included in Terri Lyne Carrington's New Standards, published by the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice.
Since 2021, she has toured Peru, Colombia,Costa Rica, Greece, Spain and Brazil, giving concerts, clinics and master classes in many schools, conservatories and universities.
