I’m a Boise-based Scottish bagpiper with over 17 years of experience performing at weddings, funerals, parties and competing at the Grade 2 level. Throughout the course of my time as a piper, I've played for an extremely diverse range of events, and I always welcome new experiences, so please don't hesitate to contact me if you’re considering bagpipes at your event, whatever it may be!
I reside in Meridian, ID, and am readily available for hire throughout the Treasure Valley and western Idaho/eastern Oregon. I also love traveling, so I’m always willing to consider events outside of these areas if my schedule allows for it.
Amazing. Professional.
We had Joshua perform at my Dad's service at the Alta Mesa Cemetery in Palo Alto last weekend. He was timely, had appropriate songs for the event and really was impressive overall. I know others there were "blown away" with his professionalism, songs and good spirits....
Joshua was such an amazing and emotionally exciting addition to the recent wedding at my gallery, Jessel Gallery. Everyone was so impressed by his quiet, calm demeanor.
There were no dry eyes as he led the procession of bridesmaids out to the guests for the ceremony.
This was a highlight at the wedding.
I highly recommend including Joshua at your next event.
He was on time and prepared very well
We had a great time and Josh was our little surprise at the golf tournament! Everyone had a blast taking group pictures with our special guests! Thank you, Josh!!
Excellent!!! Thank you
Josh arrived early to get acquainted with the set up and to meet with me about exactly what we wanted him to do. Performance was great. Crowd loved him. Received lots of applause. Would use him for future events in a heartbeat and highly recommend him to others for their events - big or small.
Made a surprise most memorable!
Joshua played a Burns Supper for us near Suisun in Solano County. He did a fine job and everyone enjoyed the dinner and the music.
Not only was Joshua a terrific musician, but he looked great in his traditional kilt and outfit. I would recommend him without reservations. He made the memorial service very memorable!
Joshua was amazing. He played for my grandmother’s service. Everyone including the people passing by thought he was amazing! We might see him at her one year memorial!
Joshua arrived early, tuned up his pipes and was ready to go !
He played Highland Cathedral as I walked my daughter down the aisle. He played the song perfectly.
Me my wife and daughter couldn’t be more happy!
Thank you Joshua!

Gig Length: 10 - 440 minutes
Languages: English, German
I've been doing gigs for over fifteen years now, and over this time the process has usually been the same:
1. Client and piper agree on a fee, exchange contact information, and establish time/place of the event. Music is also agreed upon if the client has preferences.
2. I arrive generally 15-30 minutes early for tune-up, usually in the parking lot of the venue, or a special predesignated room, if one is given to me.
3. Someone who serves as an MC or event director gives me a rundown of how the event is scheduled to run, and my turn in the schedule is specified to me.
4. Someone gives me a subtle cue to begin and/or stop playing.
5. I confirm with the director/client that my services are complete.
One thing for client(s) and audience to expect is that bagpipes are loud and are not capable of volume adjustment, so accommodation in this regard is important.
I have been playing bagpipes for over 18 years, and have been playing professionally just about as long. I have the most experience performing for funerals and weddings, but I have performed at events of all kinds.
Over the years I have been fortunate enough to receive top-notch instruction from some of the most influential authorities on piping. I have also served as an instructor for students of various levels, from beginner to intermediate. I am an active Grade 2 solo competitor and have competed in piping competitions throughout the western United States.
Up until recently I served as Pipe Major of the Santa Clara County Sheriffs Office Pipe band for 7 years, and have also played with both the Grade 5 and the Grade 2 divisions of the Prince Charles Pipe Band from 2015 to 2018, the Grade 4 division of the Stewart Tartan Pipes & Drums (now the Silicon Valley Pipe Band) from (phone number hidden)5, the Grade 4 division of the Irish Pipers of SF from (phone number hidden)3, and the non-competitive Stuart Highlanders of Menlo Park from (phone number hidden)5. I even played with a Celtic Rock band, Frail Soul, from (phone number hidden)0.
I'd say I'm pretty low-maintenance as far as pipers/performers go. I don't really have any requirements or procedures that I expect clients to follow, such as invoices, cancellation fees, or deposits. I prefer to play bookings by ear and make the process of booking a piper as simple as possible for both parties. All I usually need from a prospective client is a time, place and approval of my fee.

Some kind of pre-designated place to tune up - can be anything from a room to a parking lot or outside space away from the venue
For funerals, weddings and events that run on a schedule, I need someone to give me some kind of signal for when to start/stop
