Bayou Manouche is a New Orleans Gypsy Jazz band playing a range of up-tempo hot jazz, Bal-musettes (originally, a stylized French waltz) and lively swing instrumental and vocal standards. We are influenced by the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephan Grappelli, who were creating a new and distinctive sound in Europe in the 1930’s. This music has remained fresh and alive, and is experiencing a resurgence in popularity in New Orleans and around the world.
Bayou Manouche has performed for enthusiastic audiences in New Orleans at The DBA, Cafe Negril, and The Maison clubs on Frenchmen St, Bacchanal Wine and The Kitchen Table. We are available for a variety of occasions and entertainment.
Bayou Manouche has a unique sound and makes any evening a delight! We’ve heard them on multiple occasions and count ourselves as devoted fans. The sweet sound of Gypsy Jazz expertly played (and sometimes gently sung) is soulful as well as uplifting.
Excellent choice of music for my birthday party.
There aren’t enough adjectives to describe how much we enjoyed Bayou Manouche. From the moment they arrived (on time, btw) until they left it was clear that everyone had a good time. The party was casual and people were free to chat & roam the garden while the band played. However, the music, the musicianship was so good that most guests just wanted to sit (or dance) and listen. I’ve heard this group on several occasions and they excel at Gypsy Jazz, Swing or how ever you describe, it the music was joyful.

Bayou Manouche can perform as the center attraction for the event. Most of the music is suitable for dancing and/or listening in a concert setting. We can also perform in the form of pleasant background music to social events like cocktail parties and dining.
We can perform as an acoustic band or we can provide a small PA that works for most situations. Larger venues may require more equipment, about which we can discuss prior to the event.
We do not provide stage lighting as a rule, but, again, if needed, we can discuss options and pricing prior to the event.
A stage is not necessary, but elevation of some sort provides better sight lines and audio, especially in an acoustic environment. We’ll also need at least 4 chairs, perhaps one stool if available, and access to power if we bring a PA and other amplification.
The following set list reflects the period influences of the artists and Manouche culture mentioned in our band description. There are a number of American classic songbook tunes in the list because they were adopted by our influences. The other titles may seem unrecognizable at first, but most will be familiar when you hear them.
Bayou Manouche will consider requests made beforehand if the music can be performed in the style of our band.
