Tony Berkley formed the BerkStar Band in the Spring of 2010 after a short stint of driving an 18-wheeler. After playing in the Greater Charlotte area for the past decade, he decided to try a new area and to find more discerning audiences. While playing at the Hideout in Winston-Salem, he found the first incarnation of the band with Bassist Dennis Belt and Drummer/Vocalist Paul DeBellis. Shortly after a successful performance at Woofstock 2010, Paul decided to leave the band for other pursuits. Dennis followed soon after then Tony had to go get the "Ole' Standbys" from Charlotte. Gerald "Soul Train" Jackson-Drums, Vocals and RC Cisco-Bass provided the foundation for the rest of the summer. In the Fall Gerald was replaced by Tobias Johnson on drums and Cisco stayed until early Spring 2011. A pairing together of Tony with Kenneth Keesee backing the Traditions on some spot gigs proved to be fruitful with Kenneth coming on board as full time bassist. Jeff Montgomery joined and played Rhythm guitar with Ron Wiginton on drums providing the much needed pocket to the group. BerkStar continued to play regional performances in the Winston-Salem, Piedmont Region for several years with the addition of many skilled musicians augmenting the bands sound. Culminating with an opening for Blues Guitarist Eric Gales.
In 2016 Tony moved to the Capital Region of Upstate New York and brought the BerkStar "Let it Fly" Groove with him. Recruiting Eugene Daltri on Drums and Archie Anderson on Bass, BerkStar continues to bring it's own Blues/Funk Groove flavor to the musical mix! BerkStar is available to perform Corporate Functions, Private events, Clubs, Theaters, Fairs and Festivals all over the country.
BerkStar has an EP "Let it Fly" on all streaming platforms and working on an Album release late Spring of 2022! Consider BerkStar for your next function so you can "LET IT FLY"!!
