Brandon has been writing since adolescence and was many times called wise beyond his years. Growing up near MLK street in the small town of Bryan Texas, he started out reciting in grade school and in front of church congregations. During his college years, Brandon majored in Communications with a minor in Sociology and became part of the SHSU Poetry Slam Team. He would then become well known for being one of the organizers for the weekly open mic event on campus called Poet's Lounge. During these years, he traveled and competed along with other talents in several states such as New Mexico, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and his home state of Texas. Now residing in Dallas, Brandon continues to perform in venues such as The South Dallas Cultural Center, The Oak Cliff Cultural Center, and The Black Academy of Arts & Letters along with featured appearances at The Dallas Public Library, The Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy and many others.
His first poetry book collection titled "The Parts Medicine Can't Reach" published in 2013, chronicles the beautiful and dark experiences of life and relationships. "In The Parts Medicine Can't Reach, Jackson reminds us of the curative nature of words. This book and the poems within provide restorative justice for the reader and adds a new refreshing voice to a troubled literary form," said Harold Steward, Cultural Organizer & Arts Administrator. Brandon's second book, published the following year entitled "Somewhere Between Logic & Emotion", explores themes of love, vulnerability, self - worth and social healing. "In Somewhere Between Logic & Emotion, he reminds us all to use our voices for good, even when justice seems like a fantasy and heartache is as common as the cold," said actor, poet and activist Ashley Wilkerson.
Continuously evolving, Brandon has been a featured guest on the Internet talk radio show "The Journey" hosted by Neville Deangelou. He has also had reoccurring performances for The T.R.U.T.H. Project, led by Kevin Anderson, providing outlets for HIV awareness within the community. Audiences are sure to hear the inspiration he pulls from his experiences and upbringing, while welcoming words that will move them to love better, be loved better and to do much soul searching when experiencing what Brandon Jackson has to share.
