If I am being hired to provide the entertainment for your event, the work would begin long before the day itself. I'll be in contact with you to get a good understanding of the atmosphere you're trying to create, the size of the room and the demographic of those you are inviting. All of these factors will play into the song selection. I will ask for a general timeline for the event, so that I know when you would like music to begin, pause and resume. I will also ask for any special requests in order to ensure I can provide you with exactly what you would like.
I am happy to make my microphone available to others who might want to make announcements, etc. during the period of time that I am hired for. I am also happy to make special announcements on your behalf - such as welcoming guests who came from a distance, and/or dedicating songs to guests.
The day of the event, I will arrive up to 60 minutes prior to the performance time to ensure everything is in the right place and ready for when guests arrive.
In addition to being a songwriter, I regularly provide live music for a number of restaurants, pubs, celebrations, fundraisers and weddings. I have been performing in various formats for over 20 years, and love to help bring a smile to listeners, no matter what the venue/event.
I believe in maintaining a very diverse library of popular cover songs, with music ranging from the 50s through to current hits; from country to pop to classic rock. I determine each gig to assess the demographic of the crowd, and then choose songs accordingly. The older demographic might not respond well to hearing a song by Pearl Jam, but when that song ends, and Fats Domino begins, the heads turn, and the smiles shine. Those are the moments I love to see.
I always bring my professional Bose L1 Pro16 PA system with me, which is a small and discreet system (sometimes referred to as the 'stick') that packs an amazing punch of quality and clarity.
I sometimes bring a percussionist (Cajon Drum Box) and a second guitarist with me to help provide the excitement and energy of an acoustic band.
My job is always to enhance your event, or your venue. It is to help make the day memorable. This is the service I provide.
I am happy to bring (and sometimes insist) on bringing my Bose L1 Compact sound system. It is small and discreet, and has incredible sound quality/clarity. I have the ability to use up to 5 channels where needed.
I don't require staging or lighting, unless it is required due the venue layout.
I do have an extension cord for AC power, but I will require an outlet within 10-15 feet of where I would be set up (or additional extension cords).
If your event/venue is within an hour drive from my local, I usually do not charge a travel fee. Otherwise, a travel fee may apply based on the distance of travel required.

My set list contains hundreds of popular songs ranging form the 50s through to current hits. It also includes songs across many musical genres, including pop, country, classic rock, folk. Where invited to, I can include a few originals as well.
As a songwriter, I would say that my own songwriting has been influenced largely by acoustic writers and musicians. Some names that come to mind are Tracy Chapman, Simon and Garfunkel, Blue Rodeo, and perhaps a bit of celtic influence from the likes of Spirit of the West, or the Waterboys.
As a professional entertainer, I would say that I am influenced by so many great bands and ensembles that I've either worked with, or witnessed in action. Always having an ear to the ground, an eye on the demographic of the room, and paying close attention to what music lifts the room. Whether its a large performance, or background music to compliment a cocktail hour, the connection to the guests is what makes the best entertainers. And those are the type of entertainers that inspire me.
