The air crackles with anticipation as a single flame dances in my outstretched palm, casting flickering shadows that dance and twist around the room. A hush falls over the small gathering, their eyes locked on the mesmerizing glow. With a flourish, the flame leaps and transforms, becoming a shimmering coin that spins and twirls between my fingers. Gasps of wonder fill the air as the coin vanishes, only to reappear behind someone's ear, eliciting delighted laughter.
The magic flows from hand to hand, igniting sparks of astonishment in every heart. A torn and tattered playing card, held aloft for all to see, mends itself in the blink of an eye, returning to its pristine state. A vibrant sponge ball, seemingly imbued with a life of its own, jumps and dances between eager palms, disappearing and reappearing with mischievous glee.
The room buzzes with energy, each trick building upon the last, a symphony of astonishment conducted by my fingertips. Every eye gleams with wonder, every heart races with excitement. The energy in the room reaches a crescendo as I unveil the grand finale, a breathtaking illusion that leaves everyone speechless, their minds reeling with awe and disbelief. The show concludes with a thunderous applause, a chorus of joy that reverberates through the room, a testament to the shared experience of magic and wonder.
From a young age, my fascination with magic tricks sparked a desire to learn the art. At just four years old, I eagerly asked my dad for a book that could unravel the secrets of making things disappear. Although not a magician himself, my dad shared two impressive tricks with me, both of which I still perform today. As I grew up, I acquired a magic kit and attended my first magic convention at the age of 17, driving from Plainfield, IN to Warsaw, IN to participate in the Fellowship of Christian Magic Convention. Determined to enhance my skills, I opted to sleep in my car for the week, allocating more funds for magic props. Throughout my early 20s, I continued attending various conventions and lectures. Even now, I derive immense joy from providing family-style entertainment at gatherings and engaging in one-on-one walk-around magic.
How I got interested in magic or performing, I really can't remember. I was just a little boy before school age. However, I remember asking my dad for a book that would teach me how to make things disappear. I did get a book at that time from my parents that came from my mother's Aunt Elora. It was a children's book that explained some simple tricks. My dad taught me the two tricks he knew that I still use to this day, many years later. Then there was Marshall Brodine and TV magic cards. That was a godsend at the time. I joined the Fellowship of Christian Magicians and drove up to my first magic convention in Warsaw, IN, at the age of 17 from Plainfield, IN. That was around 1979. I am enjoying learning new things to this day and still attending lectures. I may add more to this later. If we meet, ask about my latest card trick.
