Overview
Greetings:)
I am local singer-songwriter/performer with over 20 years of experience performing. In addition to three officially released folk/Americana albums, I have an expansive cover song repertoire spanning the genres. My specialties are folk/folk-rock, country, Americana, alternative rock, pop, and classic feel-good tunes, but can perform just about anything in my own style and with a unique flare. Whether you desire live music at your restaurant, cocktail party or wedding, I can do it. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you think I might be a good fit for what you are looking for. I can also arrange for a duo/trio/full-band if my players are available on your event date. Thanks!

I cannot recommend Chris enough! I attended a birthday party where I saw him play, and I knew that he would be perfect for my sister’s celebration of life. He was so easy to work with from the time I originally reached out to him until the end of the event. So many people during and after the event could not stop talking about how great he was. He really did set the mood/tone for the event and helped honor my sister and for that I am forever grateful. I will 100% keep him in mind for future events that we have. Thank you again!

Can Chris follow me around in my every day life with his guitar? The music for our wedding ceremony and reception dinner was amazing! Perfect communication prior to the event. We couldnt have asked for a better evening. Guests loved the song selection. Our first dance felt so special with Chris singing and playing live. This was our first event with Chris and hope to have him play more in the future. Thank you for everything, Chris!!
Chris was fantastic. Our customers really loved his music. We definitely will do this again soon! Thank you to Gig Salad for making the connection.

Chris performed at a birthday party for 50 people. He demonstrated excellent communication before the event and was accommodating of any special requests. He showed up early to prepare. When it was time for the performance, his talent and voice were amazing. Everyone complimented the singer and asked where to find him. We are grateful he was available for our event!

He crushed our party. Everyone loved him. The set list he formulated fit our vibe perfectly. We’ll definitely be hiring him again.
Country Singer
Chris was so amazing. We had a party of about 50 guests and he kept everyone entertained throughout a two hour gig. While he had many covers, of which he added his own personality to and was able to field obscure artists/songs on the spot, what was most impressive was his own songs. A true artist in all respects. We will not look anywhere else for future needed.

Thanks so much for having me out Robert!
Chris played the second night of our wedding weekend and we were blown away by his talent and charisma. Great voice, diverse guitar skills, varied playlist that will please all ages---truly amazing. What a great addition to our experience, our guests are still talking about it. Something tells me he'll be playing our anniversaries and vow renewals. Only downside---he'll surely be more expensive by then! Just a matter of supply and demand, I guess.
Thanks, Chris!

Thanks so much for having me Ernest. You threw a perfect party:)
I was at a soirée hosted by friend in Sugar Land at which Chris performed.
Great sets, variety of genres all performed very well. Both original and covers. Made for an enjoyable evening. The only thing surpassing his performance was the perfect weather for an outdoor gathering.
Thank you Chris.

Thanks so much for having me. I loved the venue and had a great time!
My husband and I can’t say ENOUGH about Chris. Not only is he a top-notch professional, but, even more importantly, he’s a a TOP NOTCH person!
After searching high and low for just the right performer for my son’s (and new daughter-in-law’s ) wedding rehearsal dinner, I’d finally found Chris. When I’d booked him, I’d thrown out a hopeful question: “Any chance you’d be willing to allow me to do a number with you at the event?”’ To be honest, I’d expected a rejection buttressed with a myriad of excuses, but that’s not what I’d gotten. Instead, Chris had responded, “Absolutely! What would you like to sing?” ❤️
I’d sent Chris a song that I’d chosen to sing for my son and his bride (i.e., Ben Platt’s “Grow As We Go”), which had not been one with which he’d been familiar. Yet, Chris had embraced it wholeheartedly with the promise, “I’m on top of it!”
Then, a week prior to the event, Chris had offered to travel from the west side of Houston to our residence in Beaumont (a one-way drive of approximately 1.5 hours) to practice the song with me. When he’d arrived with his guitar, we’d sat outside on the porch swing with an audience of three (my husband and two fur babies), singing to his well-rehearsed and well-played rendition of my chosen song.
And WOW, was he AWESOME!!
Chris has FABULOUS guitar skills, no doubt, and his voice is unquestionably made for easy listening. Still, his patient and humble (yet confident) way of being in the world is what I’d needed (but had not expected) to help me rediscover the voice within me, which had been rusty from inactivity (unless talking counts 🤗).
The night of the rehearsal dinner, Chris had arrived early and had greeted our guests with song as they’d trickled into the venue. I confess that, during our duo number, I’d been somewhat weepy (🥴), but Chris had been a supportive presence for me from beginning to end. At the end of the night, our guests had sung his praises with words like “PERFECT” and “AWESOME”.
Undoubtedly, Chris is a consummate professional with natural musical abilities and well-honed stage skills. Whereas, yes, many other musicians possess the aforementioned qualities, the combination of ability, skills, and CHARACTER is what delineates Chris from the rest.
My husband and I look forward to booking him many more times in the future! Thank you for an unforgettable experience, Chris!
Chris is absolutely a top notch professional and amazing artist. Goes above and beyond make sure everyone is having a good time. Everyone who was at my party was talking about him the next day. Will definitely use and recommend Chris to anyone and everyone. Thanks Chris for the great time and memories.
Friends were asking Chris for his business card not long after he started playing! Another friend said we needed a tip jar. His original songs stopped conversations, his popular trend songs got kids and adults dancing and his genuine personality was the perfect fit for our outdoor party . He was very aware and asked if he was too loud or not loud enough. He felt like one of the family when he left! Mark your calendar next year Chris, same party, same weekend!!

Backyard party with lots going on, but Chris set the vibe while everyone was coming and going, talking and eating, kids running around, etc. Chris went with the flow, and fit in perfectly. He listened carefully to our pre-party planning ideas and learned several new songs, based on our requests.

Thanks so much Debbie! I thoroughly enjoyed meeting and playing for you all.
A versatile artist with a great vocal range, Chris Lively performs a wide variety of standards as well as original material. He is extremely professional, arriving early to set up, adapting to the crowd, and he performed well for two extended sets. He was absolutely everything I hoped he would be and I recommend him highly for your event. Excellent experience beginning to end.
I hosted an outdoor fundraiser / birthday event at my home and was thrilled to have Chris Lively perform.
Chris played a broad range of acoustic selections and pleased the crowd with music including Bruno Mars and Vance Joy as well as some great Gen X crowd pleasers. The most memorable and impactful moment was when he played his musically and lyrically compelling originals from his “Distance” (2017) and “Feather” (2014) albums, which are both available on iTunes.
Chris was warm and engaging with my guests, thorough in his pre-planning to include logistics and musical selection, and prompt and professional in his day-of-event execution.
We couldn’t have been happier with the experience and hope to work with Chris again soon!
Thank you Chris for a memorable event!

What to Expect
It is guaranteed that I will be there early and will put meticulous effort toward providing the type and quality of performance you desire. Because I am an original artist and love to craft, even when I am playing covers of songs, I like to put an original spin on them and color them with various features my own unique sound/style. My playing style is dynamic and could be described as a blend of melodic and percussive, and I often use a variety of finger-picking patterns, depending on the song/genre I'm playing. I like to explore sonic space and utilize the entire field of dynamic range when I play. There is palpable energy in each song I play, whether its subdued, meditative, moody, upbeat, or high-intensity. I am also extremely versatile, both vocally and with the guitar. I take pride in playing music as it is a fundamental component of who I am, so will take great care to ensure that my performances are fine-tuned down to each individual note.
About
"…Lively has proven himself to be a sophisticated songwriter who understands that folk music should sound literary and homespun at once. Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Joni Mitchell, John Prine, Joan Beaz, Odetta, all the great folk artists knew how to strike this balance, and that’s why we still listen to them. Lively’s songs are twangy poems that will hold up fifty years from now.” – Ricky Kingham – Free Press Houston
Native to Houston, TX, Lively began songwriting in the late 2000’s with a focus on lyricism and melody underpinned by euphonic chording and a blend of folk/blues/Americana-inspired rhythms and instrumentation. Following the release of his debut EP, the Faintest (2013), Lively amplified his presence in the Gulf Coast music scene with the release of two full-length compilations, Feather (2015) and Distance (2017). In 2024 he released his third full-length album, Where We Are Right Now. Replete with spacious vocals, layered guitars, and a diverse array of meditative picking styles, the albums chronicle the evolution of an artist continuously maturing into his own truly distinctive sound. A seasoned performer, Chris Lively has had the opportunity to open for the indie-folk band Wild Rivers, John Hiatt, and Erica Wennerstrom of
the Heartless Bastards.
Inspired by artists from City & Color to Sturgill Simpson to the Lumineers, there’s a contemplative,
mellow presence to Lively's music, frequently blending country’s twang and warmth with indie-folk’s charm. As a whole, his a collection of soulful and sometimes haunting stories that each contains a magnetism that leaves you wanting more. The songs bespeak a songwriter unafraid of charting new terrain and interweaving a vast and ever-evolving range of influences in the process. Whether solo or with his band, Lively’s hypnotic and dynamic performance style can both introspectively calm you and energetically tug at your heart. If it doesn’t, the songs will at least be stuck in your head.
