Flutist and Philadelphia native Rachael Smith has over 25 years of performing experience. A winner of several young artist competitions in the Greater Philadelphia area allowed her to be a featured soloist with the Warminster (PA), Pottstown (PA) and Wilmington, (DE) Symphonies, among others. In 2009, Rachael was a semi-finalist in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competiton as a member of DePaul University's Graduate Woodwind Quintet.
Rachael recently moved to the Washington, D.C. area with her husband and U.S. Navy Sea Chanters drummer, David Agee. Prior to their move, Rachael lived in Chicago for 10 years where she was a freelancer, primarily performing for weddings and private events with her flute, viola and harp trio, Tria. Additionally, she served as principal flute in Northbrook Symphony for six years. Rachael has also performed with Fulcrum New Music Project, the City Lights Orchestra, and Dubuque Symphony, and as an artist on the New Music DePaul concert series. She can be heard playing flute and piccolo on New World Records with the Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra performing the works of George Antheil.
Rachael has performed in master classes and studied privately with Marzio Conti, Kenneth Andrews, Robert Dick, Michel Debost, Mary Boodell and Les Rotteges. Some summer festival appearances include the Eastern Music Festival, Wildacres Flute Retreat, and the Oberlin Flute Institute.
Rachael earned her Bachelor of Music from Temple University Esther Boyer College of Music (magna cum laude) and her Master of Music from DePaul University (with distinction). Her primary teachers include Kelly McDermott, Kazuo Tokito, and Mary Stolper.
