The church was always a pivotal force in her life. she sang in the choir at The Sweet Home Baptist Church. all the while building a diverse musical foundation through the songs of musical icons such as Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae, Dinah Washington, Barbara Morrison, Yolanda Adams, The Clark Sisters, The Williams Bros, Kim Burrell, to name a few. Her introduction to the early records of Aretha Franklin fortified her commitment to becoming a soulful song master. The vibrant energy and skill of progressive artists like Prince, Ledsi and Mary J. Blige helped cultivate her deep appreciation of a solid groove and increased her hunger for improvisation.
