Classically trained cellist with years of experience playing for weddings and other formal events. No matter the occasion, I'm happy to meet and play for anyone!
I'm currently pursuing my Doctor of Music degree in cello performance at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, where I also received my Master of Music degree in the years prior. A native Oklahoman, I received my Bachelor of Music with distinction from the University of Oklahoma.
For those interested, I also maintain a private teaching studio (virtual and in-person). I've shared my love of music with others for years, and I would be happy to play for you too!
He is a professional and was great to work with for our wedding!!
Replacement was average.
Response from Cody Byrum, Cellist:
Thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry the sub did not perform exceptionally. For clarification, in the days prior to the wedding I was exposed to someone who tested positive for Coronavirus. I felt it necessary to quarantine and get tested after developing symptoms for the safety of everyone.
I did a surprise concert for my godchildren; the oldest just turned 13 yrs old. He sent me a thank you note and this is what it said:
“Having a professional cello player come over and play a mini-concert for us was out of this world. It inspired me to play the cello even more. I can’t wait for all the cool things the cello will bring to my life.”
Cody was awesome to work with; he understood our worries in the time of covid; the parents mentioned Cody told them
About the history of the cello and talked to them about the cello generally. I look forward to bring him back.
On time, flexible and played beautifully. Would book again.
Cody was perfect! He played at our wedding ceremony as guests arrived and through our prosessional and was excellent. Moreover, he was super easy to work with- I just sent him a short list of requested songs and arrived at our venue on time and ready to go! Would highly reccomend!
Cody’s talent is undeniable. His ability to make the cello sing made our wedding ceremony feel next level. He was timely, very well prepared, and his communication prior was great! We were so happy he was able to be part of our day. Highly highly recommend! Thank you so much!
Cody is amazing! Not only is he a VERY talented cellist, he is also very patient and walked me through the whole wedding music process - what he recommended, etc. He was very professional in his correspondence and in person. Highly recommend.
Cody accompanied our son for a violin recital. Cody had to learn quite a bit of new music and he made the extra time to rehearse with our son prior to the recital. He was on time and very professional. The highlight was when he played the cello for Vivaldi. He added a lot to a special day.
Cody played the Cello at out daughter's wedding at the Rose Well House on the IU Campus. He played beautifully! It was a seemingly small detail that made a big difference to the overall beauty of the ceremony. In addition to playing Simple Gifts for the processional and All You Need is Love for the recessional, he played before the ceremony and after the ceremony while we were taking family photos.
Thanks Cody!!

Gig Length: 30 - 180 minutes
I can provide up to three hours of music with or without piano accompaniment. If the duration last over an hour, I will need a short break to rest my arms. If you would like piano accompaniment, the piano and piano chair will need to be provided. I can bring all the required equipment for my instrument! If you would like any of the following chamber ensembles: string quartet, string trio, piano trio, or violin cello duo, I can also arrange those.
I started my musical education at the age of four with private piano lessons. I enjoyed it so much, at age nine I also began studying the cello. As I played within my school and many honors orchestras around Oklahoma, my love for the cello grew. In high school I began entering competitions, and at the age of sixteen I was selected to perform as a soloist with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic under the baton of Joel Levine. The following year, I also performed with the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra as a soloist. I received my Bachelors degree in music performance from the University of Oklahoma, and during that time I performed in festivals across America and Europe. In 2017 I moved to Bloomington, Indiana to continue my studies at the renowned Jacobs School of Music. I received my masters in music performance, and I am now pursuing a doctorate at the university.
Weather at outdoor events occasionally doesn’t mix well with stringed instruments. Temperatures between 55-85 degrees Fahrenheit are acceptable for outdoor performances, and some sort of cover is preferred (though not required). I have a portable white tent available that can be used to cover myself or an ensemble. If temperatures are outside this range or there is preciptation/inclement weather, it will not be possible to play outdoors. Sufficient lighting is usually not a problem, but if the event is intended to be dimly lit let me know so I can bring stand lights.
