Cody Dooley's Country Legacy is musical history of county music. Most attention has been paid to making every song he sings sound as close to the original recording as possible, rather than a big production stage show. Many people say when they close their eyes, they think they are really listening to Conway Twitty, Marty Robbins, or any of the other artists he gives tribute to. Cody is also a country music historian and throws in interesting facts and trivia about the artists. Cody has opened for Willie Nelson and Janie Fricke. His newest single that was released on Castle Records Nashville in Sept of 2007 will also be featured.
Born in Cleburne, Texas and raised on the Texas coast just outside of Corpus Christi, Cody Dooley grew up listening to the sounds of great country legends. After puruing several different fields of opportunity, Cody decided his talents were best used to help keep classic country music alive and help people relive the memories that they had from the past. In 2000, Cody moved to Branson, Missouri where he auditioned for his first show, "Changing Up" at the Wild West Theater. He landed the role of Mike, the singing cowboy, in the musical drama. Unfortunately, the show was poorly funded and short lived. After this, Cody decided to start his own show dedicated to the classic country music that everyone so much loves and misses. He started performing the "Country Legacy Show" at Fall Creek Resort on Wednesday nights in late 2000. The response from visitors was overwhelming. Since then, Cody has been able to add more features such as a catered barbeque dinner and a growing fan club, some of which drive to Branson at least once month to see the show. He incorporated history with the music, which helps make his show stand out from most stage shows in Branson, studying the classic country artists and featuring interesting trivia and events about the artists in the show. During the last 17 years, Cody has continued to perform the "Country Legacy Show," as well as performing in other shows such as "From Patsy To Present." In July, 2005, he was invited to perform at Willie Nelson's First Annual Barbeque And Chili Cook Off / Grand Opening of Willie's Place Theatre in Carl's Corner, Texas, which was featured on RFDTV. One of the most unique things about Cody is his ability to perform songs that sound so close to the original artist's voices, it's incredible. People have even accused him of lipsinging to an original recording, which has never been and never will be the case. He is a true singing impressionist. He focuses much of his time learning the different characteristics and styles of the individual artists. Cody performs only classic country music at his shows, which means pre 1990. Some of the artists that he recreates are Marty Robbins, Jim Reeves, Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty, Ernest Tubb, and John Conlee. Although, he can perform songs by virtually any classic country artist, always in the original key. In December 2006, Cody signed on with Castle Records in Nashville Tennessee and has just finished recording a new album of all original songs. Of course these had to be more contemporary for today's country radio, but he still plans on always singing a few of the great classics whenever possible. His first single "She's Too Good At Doing All The Wrong Things Right" was released in September of 2007. Who knows what the future holds for Cody, but be assured wherever the road may lead, you can bet he'll be somewhere belting out an old George Jones tune.
