Coleman Photography Studio

My name is Larry Coleman.

Every day I work to create the best portraits and portfolios for my clients. Coming from life on a coal camp to an accomplished and award winning photographer, I am proud to say I am living the American dream. Let me take this opportunity to introduce myself.

I was born in the mountains of Mason, West Virginia in my grandfather's coalmine camp. Every summer as a child I remember travelling across the country on our family vacations; this is where my love of photography began. My Kodak Instamatic X-15 by my side, my first albums were filled with scenes from across America: from the lighthouses of Cape Cod, to the falls of Yellowstone National Park.

Through my teens, I was a photographer for my high school yearbook, and the sports photographer for our school paper. After high school, I attended Kentucky Christian University. I majored in Communicatons,to help pay my way through school I worked in the college darkroom, and assisted university staff on photography projects.

In order to complete my studies, I took a leave from school to work as a local police officer. I worked as the department's photographer, shooting crime scenes, accidents, and evidence. Though difficult work, it helped me to appreciate the art of photography.

After a two years I was able to return to KCU, and in May of 1981, in one of the proudest moments of my life, I received my BS. While photography was only a hobby for me after college, I continued to study and develop my skills when I could.

After many years of winning awards in multiple competitions, shooting weddings, special events, and model portfolios, I decided it was time to open my own studio. In 1992 I opened Coleman Photography Studio.
