My name is Kalie Johnson! My job during the week got me here today! As an art educator specializing in workshops for children in foster and residential care, I create nurturing spaces where creativity can thrive and do art with kids of all different abilities and interests. My favorite medium in my classes is collage, and I’m consistently amazed by the unique artworks the kids produce. In addition to art, I also lead gardening activities, fostering a connection to nature, our food, and our interconnectedness on this planet. I’m a published writer and believe in the transformative power of art in all its forms. I want more people to be able to do art freely and believe that community is the best way to spread it! Art brings people together and slows us down. The collage booth is born from that idea and gives people the autonomy to create on their terms.
Technical Requirements for My Collage Art Booth
To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for attendees and event planners, here are the key technical requirements for my collage art booth.
Space Requirements: Can adapt to most spaces, but ideally indoors due to small scraps of paper and scrapbooking materials.
Booth Size: Ideally, I require a space of at least 10x10 feet to accommodate the table, materials, and allow for easy movement for attendees. More space is appreciated for larger events!
Layout: A flat, stable surface for the tables is essential, along with enough room for attendees to gather around comfortably.
Table and Chairs: Minimum one table for supplies and one table for creation and engagement. Ideal to have additional tables to encourage more participants in event.
Seating: A few chairs or stools are helpful for participants who may want to sit while creating their collages.
Materials and Supplies: I will provide all necessary art materials, including glue sticks, scissors both children's and adults, magazines, cardstock, construction paper, stickers, and other scrapbooking supplies. If there are specific materials you’d like me to include, please let me know in advance.
Lighting: Adequate lighting is important for participants to see their work clearly. If the event is in a dimly lit space, please provide access to additional lighting sources (like lamps or string lights), which would enhance the experience.
Electricity: If additional tools or equipment are required (such as an electric cutter or a light box), access to an electrical outlet would be necessary. However, all activities can be conducted without electricity.
Setup and Breakdown: I will arrive 30 to 60 minutes before the event starts to set up the booth and ensure everything is organized. I will stay with the booth or near the booth to provide aid, encouragement, and organize as needed. A similar timeframe will be needed for breakdown after the event concludes.
Accessibility: The booth should be located in a space that is easily accessible to all attendees, including those with mobility challenges. If you have specific accessibility requirements, please inform me in advance.
Weather Considerations (for outdoor events): If the event is outdoors, please provide a shaded area or tent to protect the booth and materials from the sun and potential rain. By ensuring these technical requirements are met, we can create a fun and engaging environment where attendees feel inspired to express their creativity. If you have any questions or specific needs, feel free to reach out!

My journey has been shaped by a variety of influences, both past and present:
Social Workers: Social workers always emphasize the power and capabilities of art and self-expression.
Collage art is accessible and for everyone! It is different every time. No piece is ever the same.
Community Art Initiatives: Free or open community-based projects highlight the transformative power of art in fostering connections and emotional expression. I believe in the power of art as a bridge, as a connector.
Personal Experiences: My own childhood experiences with art and creative expression play a crucial role in shaping my work. I strive to provide the same sense of wonder and exploration to those I work with!
