Comedian Magician El Ropo

Saw El Ropo at the Magic Castle 8/9/12. He did amazing rope tricks and coin maneuvers. He also did some great magic involving a ring belonging to a girl in our group--it was truly amazing where her ring ended up!!! Great guy, does well interfacing with people and involves them in the tricks.

Phil Van Tee (or El Ropo as I call him) is a true entertainer. From his magic to his sense of humor to his presentation, he knows how to keep a crowd interested and wanting more.

I had been impressed with his show at the Magic Castle a couple of times, so when I heard he was hired for a late meeting at work, I knew we all had an fun night ahead of us. For hours before and after the meeting, we were entertained with some truly mind blowing magic. It's difficult to say that what El Ropo does are tricks because from my perspective, it looks like straight up magic. Even the biggest skeptics in the room couldn't peel their eyes away; shaking their heads in disbelief, knowing they had finally been fooled.

With El Ropo, everyone is right up close to watch the magic and there is full audience participation. Most of his magic includes coins, cards, and ropes (hence, El Ropo) and I have never seen him repeat a trick. He's in no way a showy magician; he's a very humble guy with a slightly dry sense of humor and the ability to engross an entire crowd. He's so amiable and approachable in his usual bolo tie and cowboy hat that he has no problem mingling and doing magic for any sort of crowd.

His talent and precision of his craft is amazing and will have you feeling like a little kid, wide-eyed and gasping with every move. I certainly hope to see him again soon.

Phil provided a great show that kept everybody entertained. He was great at interacting with the crowd and getting the audience involved. His uplifting personality helped to bring life and enjoyment to the show. I recommend him highly to anybody considering his services.

I truly enjoyed Phil Van Tee's magic performance Thursday night at the Magic Castle. We were amazed at the rope magic. How do those rings end up on the rope...!?

I was at the magic castle and happen to see him in the crowd playing with a rope. I asked and he was kind enough to do a few tricks, which naturally drew in a crowd. He performed amazingly and was a great sport about showing us his talents. I'd definitely consider him if I ever needed such services.

Phil Van Tee at the Magic Castle was truly awsome! He was especially nice and accommodating to all who gathered to watch and be amazed with his magic. His skill is unquestionable even when you're so up close with him sitting at his table while he does his magic. He has a variety of "magical" things he does that leaves you feeling "huh?". Phil continued to entertain my two friends and I at closing while we were waiting for the crowd to leave instead of just dimsissing us. I would definitely recommend Phil as one of the top magicians I've ever seen.

We had the chance to see and meet Phil "El Ropo" at the Magical Castle in LA and our entire group was enchanted by his performance. He was excellent, funny and magically mysterious. After the show we had the pleasure of talking to him for a few minutes; great performer and great guy. Seeing his show was the highlight of our trip. If you have the chance to check him out at the Castle or another venue you will be guaranteed an amazing show!

The first time I went to the Magic Castle I happened upon Phil Van Tee doing a typically low-key, slow-build, aw-shucks series of tricks, just sitting at a plain table, building a crowd naturally. Ten minutes later I felt like a little kid, amazed at the skill I was seeing, and laughing at every silly corny joke along the way.

I've brought three people back to the Magic Castle since then (thanks to Phil; we kept in touch), with Phil as the star attraction in my description of an already pretty amazing place.

He is as hilarious, as he is mystifying, as he is tall. And if he doesn't do the Bow and Arrow rope trick for you, ask him. It's ridiculous.

Phil Van Tee is amazing. I initially saw him at the Magic Castle and always go back to see him perform now. You can literally stand next to him and you’ll still be amazed at his close-up work. Oh and did I mention he is hilarious and exudes a warmth that is hard ignore. I would definitely recommend him for parties. He is the toats!

I took my girlfriend to the castle and sadly the night turned into a bit of a disaster. The crowds were so packed we only got in one show - the stage show - which was just average. But mostly, she and I really wanted to see "close up" magic.

Then we found the man with the cowboy hat making people laugh outside the stage show. We sat down and for the next 20 minutes Phil gave the best performance we saw there ever! He was so funny, incredible tricks, and most of all he made us feel like the only people there that night. My gf even got to keep a little souvenir which she keeps on the dresser. It turned into a magical night.

Phil is the kind of guy you just want to sit around a campfire for hours with.

His magic is incredible...fantastic, mind-boggling and creative card tricks and nimble stunts with just about any object you can imagine. He is also down to earth, a great conversationalist, and compelling story teller. What's more, unlike most magicians, he is often willing to teach a trick or two so that you can go back and impress your friends (although he definitely keeps his best tricks to himself).

A true highlight of our night at the Magic Castle. Hire this man!

With Phil, you've got a comedian as well as a magician - and a little bit of cowboy too. His sleight of hand skills are amazing, as you'll probably only see what he wants you to see. He'll keep you laughing while pulling out trick after trick.

We caught Phil Van Tee's performance at the Magic Castle this past October, 2011. His act was the highlight of the night. He played the banjo and had the crowd laughing before the show started. Once he got into it, he had us laughing and amazed the entire time. He's got a unique style, and was every easy going. Super magician, very funny. Very memorable. You won't be disappointed.

We were separated from our party for the close-up gallery show at the Magic Castle. So we decided to wait by the bar till the show ended so we can all head home together.
We were a bit depressed but then Phil came to the rescue! Thanks to him, the time flew by and we ended the night with smiles on all of our faces.

The main show at the Magic Castle was great but I enjoyed Phil's close up magic performance a lot more. All of his tricks left us wondering...How did he do that?!

I saw Phil at the Magic Castle, and I must say, he was one of my favorites of the night. His magic tricks are interactive and he makes everyone feel a part of the act. I was in awe the entire time.

I first met Cowboy Phil at the Magic Castle where he sat in the Museum Room all by himself and he entertained me with unique coin tricks, and great conversation about different coins used, and some of the mechanics of holding them. I then met him again performing to a larger group and doing many more tricks I haven't seen him do before, and every time I've met him again he does a lot more I haven't seen him do before.

So his ability to perform as a magician is truly top notch. He is by far one of my personal favorite magic performers and someone who I always look forward to seeing again; not just to be amazed and baffled by his magic, but also for his genuine interest in others. Rather than saying he knows how to 'work' the crowd, I think it's much more appropriate to say he knows how to engage the crowd, and entertain people of all ages.

Magic isn't just for kid parties.

Phil is a great magician. I've seen him a few times at the Magic Castle and everytime he has new tricks. I really like the close up slight of hand magic tricks and thats what hes great at. Aside from the magic he always gets me laughing and is just a good guy.

Amazing magician!!! I was fortunate to be entertained and wow'd by his up-close, hands-on, in-your-face, in-your-hands, astounding magic with lots of personality. In 14+ yrs, for 4-5 times, I have been lucky to go to the private magician's club in LA, the magic castle. My favorite room is outside at the table by the downstairs bar. Phil Van Tee is one of the best!!!

From the moment i i spoke with Phil, to the goodbye, he was an amazing entertainer. His tricks were mesmerizing and his conversation was enchanting. The whole time spent in his presence was a treat!

Phil was absolutely delightful. His card work and rope work were incredibly skilled and a joy to observe. His wonderful sense of humor enhanced his act even more than his skill alone, and the way he engaged the audience was tremendous. My boyfriend and I couldn't stop laughing or being surprised by his magic. I took home the three of clubs I signed, and he ripped and put back together. I will save it forever as a keepsake from such a fun night.

I stumbled upon Phil Van Tee performing at the Magic Castle when I went for my birthday and had a blast! He had me and my whole group laughing our heads off and truly amazed us with his skill. We were sitting mere feet from him, and even watching him closely, we couldn't catch how he did anything (I think the sign of a truly great magician).

I loved Phil Van Tee's magic. He was fantastic at involving all participants around the table. One guy at our table was saying "don't waive him over I don't like magic tricks" and he was the one that had the best time. I first met Phil at my wife's company Christmas party in 2009. We both were impressed by Phil's abilities and his connections with the audiences.

We decided to hire Phil for our son's 10th birthday. Phil was awesome with the kids and the adults love him. He even took the extra time after the show to perform close up magic for the adults.

Phil is a true professional and the consumate magician/comedian. Extremely talented and funny to boot. All the guests at our party were entertained beyond expectation.

Phil performed for our son's 7th Birthday Party in which there were about 10 kids and 20 adults. He did a fantastic job keeping both kids and adults mesmerized and entertained as the magician cowboy. We all marveled at how rapt the kids were during the entire 45 minute performance. The adults loved being a part of the show and everyone even learned a little trick at the end!
