I specialize in classic acoustic folk rock, both up-tempo and ballads, doing covers from such artists as James Taylor, The Beatles, The Eagles, Jimmy Buffet, and Dan Fogelberg, among MANY others, as well as current artists and original tunes. My song list currently has over 300 selections, with new songs being added all the time. I am always professional in appearance and presentation, always on time, and have a great rapport with the audience. With over 30 years of experience you won't be disappointed. I offer reasonable rates, and I'm usually available on fairly short notice and during weekdays. Available for restaurants, bars, weddings, and private parties!

David was an absolute pleasure to work with for our wedding. He asked us what song we would like for the bride to walk up to and to leave with. He gave us some suggestions as well when we were not sure what we wanted to play. After the ceremony David walked to where the wedding party and all the guests were mingling. He continued to play and sing staying close enough everyone could hear him. We had an outdoor wedding with no PA system as it was not an option. However, David worked with us to find the best solution we could and it turned out great! I cannot recommend hiring David enough. He was an absolute pleasure to work with for our wedding.

David performed at our wedding this past March at Sugar Creek Brewery in Charlotte, NC and did an incredible job! When you come see me, you'll see someone who thoroughly enjoys what he does and shares that with his audience. From up-tempo toe-tappers to sing-alongs to beautiful ballads, you get it all with me. I have a warm, easy-going style, enjoy interacting with the crowd, and occassionally will even invite an audience member to join me at the mic. My songlist contains over 300 numbers, so I can usually accommodate requests, as well! On the business side, I conduct myself professionally. I arrive early for a thorough set up, take short breaks, and rarely drink while I perform (unless an audience member wants to buy me a beer now and then).
Alaska-born and North Carolina-raised, I've been playing guitar, singing, and writing songs since I was 16. My performing career has taken me from Charlotte and the NC Triad, to the vibrant music scene of Austin, TX, down to the Low Country of Hilton Head Island, into talent-rich Louisville, KY, and back to the Charlotte area again. Along with my musical collaborator, Marty Miller, I have recorded three CDs of original material, "The Family Heart" in 2001, "Creature Comforts" in 2011, and "High Water Line" released in January, 2018. I performed over 135 gigs in 2019 and love what I do: singing, playing, entertaining, and making people happy!
I provide my own 700 watt sound system, including microphone, mixer, monitor, and elevated speakers, as well as some minimal stage lighting for effect when appropriate. I usually play both a six- and twelve-string acoustic/electric guitar during my shows. I require a 3-prong electrical outlet within 50' of my performance site, and a bottle of water or two is appreciated, if available. If outdoors, solid flooring is preferred, along with overhead cover, however I can provide my own pop-up 8'x8' tent if necessary.

With over 300 tunes to choose from, my sets vary based on the audience, location, and event. Typically you'll hear such tunes as "Take it Easy" (Eagles) , "Here Comes the Sun" (Beatles)," Margaritaville" (Buffet)," Carolina in my Mind" (Taylor), "Wagon Wheel" (Dylan), "Black Water" (Doobies), "Perfect" (Sheeran), and "3 a.m." (Matchbox 20), just to name a few. I will also include excellent tunes by some lesser-known artists, as well as a few original compositions. I do my best to accomodate requests, as well, by providing copies of my song list to the audience.
My performances offer songs from a wide range of artists including classic acts such as the Eagles, the Beatles, and Crosby, Stills, and Nash, to singer/songwriters like James Taylor, Jimmy Buffet, Dan Fogelberg, and Harry Chapin. You will also hear tunes from current artists such as Matchbox 20, Jason Isbell, O.A.R., and Ed Sheeran. I also include selections from independent artists such as The Floating Men, Paul Thorne, and my own original compositions.
