I offer solo performances on sitar, dilruba, or guitar (with or without electronic accompaniment). My performance will provide a wonderful musical atmosphere for your event, yoga class, or for whatever you might need beautiful music. I also have experience with composing and performing music for theater, film, and dance companies, and am adaptable to a wide variety of situations.
I can also assemble an ensemble if needed.
Call me! Let's talk.
Dawoud was playing his sitar while I proposed to my girlfriend and it was perfect. He’s a very skilled musician, very easy to work, and will add a beautiful touch to any event you throw.
He was incredible and our guests loved him! Definitely working with him again!
Dawoud was so easy to work with, as he was very nice and well organized. We hired him to play at my wife's book launch "The Transmigrant" , many loved his performance. If you want a magical touch to your event, then definitely get Dawoud to play his Sitar for you!
The music was great! Added so much to our "Arabian Night" party. Musician was very nice with good energy and his price was very reasonable compared to others I reached out to. Would definitely use again even if not part of theme..
Price Range: $200 and up (plus travel expenses, if necessary).
Gig Length: 30 - 90 minutes
Dawoud Kringle is a multi instrumentalist, composer, improviser, and band leader of the ensembles Renegade Sufi and God's Unruly Friends. In addition to being an accomplished guitarist and bassist, it is his work on the sitar and dilruba that have earned his reputation as "The Jimi Hendrix of the sitar," His experiments with applying jazz technique and electronics to the traditional music and techniques are unprecedented, and seeks to extend the boundaries of the instruments.
He has performed in the US and Europe, appeared on many recordings, has composed for film, theater, and dance performances, and has enjoyed radio airplay in the US, Europe, Russia, and Indonesia. Some of the people he has worked with include Lauryn Hill, Ornette Coleman, James "Blood" Ulmer, Nona Hendryx, Marie Alphonso (Zap Mama), DJ Celt Islam, Gypsy Groovez Orchestra, Junni Booth, and Daniel Carter.
He has studied with George Pritchett (formerly with Buddy Rich), Kelvyn Bell (Lester Bowie, Arthur Blythe, Decoding Society), Jeff Slatnick (former student of Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan), Pat Martino, Dr. Yusef Lateef (link hidden) and Ustad Shaheed Parvez Khan. His teaching credits include private instruction since 1980, the Bronx School of Music and Art, and the Harlem School of the Arts.
Dawoud conducts music meditation sessions, wherein he guides group meditation using musical form and sound.
He is also an accomplished writer / novelist and artist.
I would need to know details of sound equipment at the performance venue. Depending on the situation, I will need a chair or cushion, and maybe a small table. I also need an electrical outlet (a power strip would be ideal). And further details we can work out between us.
