Dayna Hagstedt is a Charlotte-based flutist who seeks to foster compassion, community, and connection through the power of music performance.
Committed to making a lasting impact on audiences, Dayna can be found leading innovative performances that challenge the status-quo. As a performer, she seeks to collaborate with her audience through a social, emotional, and intellectual exchange. Whether through virtual pandemic performances on the COVID ICU, or through sensory-friendly concerts featuring flute quartet, ukulele, and didgeridoo, she is committed to making classical music more approachable to a broader audience base.
Dayna has enjoyed a diverse international performance career, spanning from performances of Mendelssohn’s “Italian Symphony” in an intimate cathedral in Fiera di Primiero, Italy, to performances with iconic rock band “The Who.” She made her solo recital debut at fifteen, as she was selected to perform at the Spoleto Music Festival. She has also been awarded prizes for several performances, most recently including first prize in Kings Peak International Music Competition for her performance of Jolivet’s "Chant de Linos." Additionally, she has performed in masterclasses for Jeanne Baxtresser, Robert Langevin, Karl-Heinz Schütz, Jeffrey Khaner, Jasmine Choi, and Egor Egorkin.
Beyond the stage, Dayna aspires to increase accessibility and inclusivity within her community. Supporting that mission, she serves as the co-founder of Azure Family Concerts Pittsburgh. This program provides live musical experiences for people of all ages in a sensory-friendly and judgment-free environment.
Dayna holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Flute Performance from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master’s in Music from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Additionally, she attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts prestigious high school program, where she received a high school diploma with an emphasis on flute performance. She is eternally grateful for the wisdom and artistry bestowed upon her by her primary teachers, including Demarre McGill, Lorna McGhee, Alberto Almarza, and Tadeu Coelho, and grateful for additional studies with Nicolas Duchamp, Heather Verbeck, Aik Khai Pung, and Janet Arms.
