We help the LGBTQ community and its allies live fabulously, not fabulously broke, as owners of and hosts of the Queer Money™ podcast. We, David Auten and John Schneider, as husbands, are the only queer couple helping the LTBTQ community with its money. Hire us as brand partners or speakers at your next event to connect your business with the queer community and its nearly $1 trillion purchasing power. Hire us to help your employees with their money because financially secure employees are more productive employees.
I saw the Debt Free Guys at the Queer Money Live event at the Capital One Cafe in DC (packed house!). John and David delivered an excellent, engaging presentation with jaw-dropping statistics and actionable advice to educate, inspire, and challenge attendees to help themselves (and to help friends) with getting a handle on personal finances. Hearing their personal stories about how they handled money made it easy to relate to what they're saying about making mistakes and then taking control to improve money management. After the presentation, John and David made themselves available to answer attendees' questions and to continue to conversation. I highly recommend working with the Debt Free Guys!
Seeing David and John in person is one of the highlights of my summer so far! The event took place in the Capital One cafe in Union Square, which lended itself to be an intimate morning gathering to talk money to LGBTQ community! The presentation was about an hour with light interaction and Q&A afterward.
John and David highlighted some of the challenges the community faces from small scale (opening up a bank account) to large scale (not owning a home, lack of job promotion, etc).
They talk about their personal journey of money management and I can bet that whoever attends their events can relate and/or have that A-HA moment. They also bring to light that successful money management is a mindset (aka your Money Story). Additionally, doing a 12-month spending analysis will highlight where you spend the most. This takes you from thinking “I’m not really spending That much” to a jaw-dropping “ Omg! That’s how much I’m spending!?!??”
Overall, the NYC talk was a success! A full house, talking about finances with Debt Free Guys, learning nuggets of information to share with friends and family and some action steps to take to move forward in mindfully managing your money.
I recommend and endorse Debt Free Guys! :)

We were sitting on the dining room floor or our cold, dark basement apartment wondering why we weren’t as successful as we wanted. We just admitted that between us we had $51,000 of credit card debt. We were living naively and unconsciously and doing it all on credit.
After spending the weekend in the mountains and looking at property to build a vacation home, we realized we could barely afford to spend a weekend there, let alone buy land and build a vacation home.
How could we have a vacation home when we didn't even own a home?
We realized that for the past few years, we were spending beyond our means to make ourselves feel better, in part, to make up for being bullied and picked on for being gay when we were younger.
Even though we eventually found our community, we had limiting beliefs and thought we had to prove ourselves worthy to them. So, we spent and lived like the A-List gays. They had new clothes. We had new clothes. They had new phones. We had new phones. They went on amazing vacations. We went on amazing vacations.
Then, that night sitting on the floor of that gloomy apartment, we hit rock bottom. We were two financial services professionals making good money and bad decisions.
We were the gay cliché of living fabulous but being fabulously broke.
Like Britney after she shaved her head and Neil Patrick post-Doogie, we completely changed our lives and our finances for our big comeback. We now use our personal and professional experiences with money to help other queer folks do the same.
Start truly living fabulously with the first exercise we did to get out of debt.
