The oldest of four children in the Baker family, Denny grew up on the west side of Cincinnati Ohio with two sisters and a younger brother. A typical kid, he liked sports and wanted to be a firefighter like his dad.
Denny’s interest in the art of ventriloquism began with a tour of Vent Haven Museum in Fort Mitchell Kentucky at the age of nine. The only museum in the world that is dedicated to the art of ventriloquism, it houses over 1000 figures and historical artifacts. Determined to perform with his own department store Charlie McCarthy, he took a twenty-six-week correspondence course on tape to learn the tools of the trade. Denny’s first show was at a local Cincinnati Library for an equally young audience. He was hooked.
It wasn’t long before he was performing for birthday parties, family gatherings, school groups and scouting events. Each year he attended the International Ventriloquist Convention in Northern Kentucky and competed in several youth competitions. During his high school years, Denny’s music teacher included a ventriloquist bit into every musical performance, perfecting his stage presence, timing and delivery of material. At the age of seventeen, he competed and won a twelve-week, city-wide talent search.
After graduation, Denny pursued his lifelong goal as a professional firefighter. He is currently a Fire Lieutenant and paramedic with the Cincinnati Fire Department where he has served since 1996. Married for twenty-five years, has four sons and enjoys time spent with his busy family.
Over the years, Denny has shared the art of ventriloquism with all age groups and found his niche is performing with adults for corporate events (i.e. main entertainer or emcee) and company training sessions. Preplanned with the event coordinator, Denny customizes every program to meet their specific needs and expectations. The material is always clean and appropriate. Characters interact with willing audience participants, resulting in hilarious impromptu comedy bits. Training sessions are fun and engaging, making important learning objectives easy to remember.
As an Advisory Board member of the Vent Haven Museum, Denny is involved with the annual International Ventriloquist Convention and often performs during the year for the museum’s promotional events.
