Derek was very punctual the evening of the performance leaving plenty of time to set up. Very talented entertainer and accomplished musician providing a nice selection of "Big Band Era" songs. The saxophone is definitely Derek's expertise!! The interaction with the audience was a nice touch also! Great evening of entertainment!

Derek Sandstrom has been making a lot of kinds of music for a long time. As a young lad of 9, Derek chose to play the sax in his elementary school band. He has not put it down since.
Along with singer/songwriter piano pop, classical, rock, and other styles, Derek plays music of the Big Band era, done solo. He plays sax, sings, uses backgrounds to fill out the sound, and also plays piano and sings as a change of pace. He's a one man band that sounds like a small jazz combo. His music is perfect for dinner or cocktail parties, receptions, retirement homes, and anywhere some classy, sophisticated music is on the menu.
