LACEY HAYS, TRUMPET
Dr. Lacey Hays grew up on a farm in central Oklahoma and began playing the trumpet in 5th grade. Before beginning her Undergraduate studies, she was named an Emerson Scholar and attended Interlochen. Dr. Hays has enjoyed a career in numerous settings and has performed with orchestras throughout Europe as well as North, South and Central America. She has also given masterclasses and clinics throughout the US and South/Central America. She serves as Artist/Faculty in Residence for the Alfredo San Malo Music Festival of Panama and previously held a position at the Verdi Opera House in Trieste, Italy. She has performed in Carnegie Hall, St. Peter’s Basilica in The Vatican, and at numerous music festivals including The Aspen Music Festival (Colorado), Young Euro Festival (Berlin), Spoleto (Italy), Spoleto USA (South Carolina), Le Domain Forget (Canada), Great Waters International Music Festival (New Hampshire), Le Festival Bel Canto (Québec), Snape Maltings (England), Festival de Musique de Monton (France), Musica Riva Festival (Italy), and Campos do Jordao Music Festival (Brasil). Dr. Hays co-founded Les Femmes Five Quintet, an all female brass quintet that performs and teaches in Panama (Central America).
In 2012, Dr. Hays was honored to play on the national premiere of L'Histoire Du Soldat in Panama City, Panama. In addition to participating in several recording projects, Dr. Hays can be heard on multiple DVDs, including: The Legacy, a documentary featuring the Youth Orchestra of the Amercas where she can be heard playing principal trumpet of Bartok's "Concerto for Orchestra" (Lobo Productions) and Messa Da Requiem with Placido Domingo conducting Verdi's Requiem which was recorded and videoed in Munich, Germany (Glor Music Productions). Currently Dr. Hays performs throughout DFW as a freelance artist, and often serves as a clinician and adjudicator, and has been a member of the Blast of Brass Ensemble since 2013.
Enthusiastic about teaching, Dr. Hays is on the faculty of both Mountain View College and North Central Texas College where she teaches trumpet and lecture courses. She has presented master classes at the University of Panama, Bethel College (Kansas), Baylor University (Texas), University of Oklahoma, and Marshall University (West Virginia). Dr. Hays hold degrees from The School of Music at The University of Oklahoma (BM, BME, DMA) and The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University (MM). She is a member of Tau Beta Sigma, Pi Kappa Lambda, Gamma Beta Phi Academic Honor Society, Golden Key International Honor Society, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, International Trumpet Guild (for which she has authored articles), International Women's Brass Conference, and Texas Music Educator's Association.
ADAM MILLER, TRUMPET
Dallas native Adam Miller is an active performer and teacher in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Formerly the Principal Trumpet of the Shanghai Broadcasting Symphony, Adam currently serves as Second Trumpet of both the Plano and Irving Symphonies. As a freelancer, Adam has performed hundreds of weddings, recitals, and services in local churches and other venues over the last 20 years. He has performed with Dallas Winds (formerly the Dallas Wind Symphony), Jacksonville Symphony, the Blast of Brass Ensemble, as well as the Texas Star Brass Band.
After completing his Bachelor of Music at Southern Methodist University, Mr. Miller moved to New York City where he attended the Juilliard School. Mr. Miller had the pleasure of studying under Mark Gould, Phil Smith and Wynton Marsalis while working on his Master of Music. Upon completing his M.M. at Juilliard, Mr. Miller moved once again. This time to China where he served as Principal Trumpet of the Shanghai Broadcasting Symphony. Throughout his career, he has performed with artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Yo-Yo Ma, Luciano Pavarotti, Empire Brass, Canadian Brass, Josh Groban, and Idina Menzell. In addition to his many performances, Mr. Miller is also a successful teacher. Mr. Miller is on faculty at the Blast of Brass Camp held at Texas A&M - Commerce Campus every summer. His students have participated in honor bands including the TMEA All-State ensembles, competitions such as the National Trumpet Competition, and festivals such as the Grand Valley State Trumpet Seminar. Steve Peterson is an active performer and teacher in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He has performed with the Cincinnati Symphony, Detroit Symphony, and Dallas Symphony Orchestras.
STEVE PETERSON, TROMBONE
A native of Michigan, Mr. Peterson earned a Bachelor of Music in Trombone Performance from the University of Michigan. After the completion of his undergraduate degree he traveled and performed throughout the world before settling in Dallas where he completed a Master of Music at Southern Methodist University. Mr. Peterson teaches throughout the metroplex and is on Faculty at Richland College.
In addition to his performance and teaching schedule, Mr. Peterson is an active videographer and has produced short documentaries for the Dallas Symphony, Avant Chamber Ballet, and Bosphorus Cymbal Factory. Steve's films can be seen at (link hidden)
JEFF BAKER, TUBA
Dr. Jeff Baker serves as the Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Texas A&M University - Commerce. Dr. Baker received music degrees from the University of Oklahoma (BM) and the University of North Texas (MM and DMA).
Dr. Baker is the Principal Tuba/Cimbasso for the Dallas Opera Orchestra. As a freelance musician on tuba, bass trombone, and cimbasso, he has performed with numerous ensembles throughout the southwest including the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Dallas Winds (formerly the Dallas Wind Symphony), the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, the Allen Philharmonic, the Lone Star Wind Orchestra, and the Wichita Grand Opera.
Dr. Baker has performed as a featured soloist with the US Army Band and as a concerto competition winner with the University of North Texas Symphonic Band. He can be heard on more than fifteen recordings on the EPR, Klavier, Mark, and Naxos labels. Dr. Baker is the conductor and coordinator of the annual Tuba Christmas celebration that is held in downtown Commerce, TX. He is a member of the Texas Music Educator's Association, the International Tuba and Euphonium Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
DFW Brass can provide our own music, music stands and stand lights if needed.
We also use music provided by our clients. We almost always perform in ALL BLACK. Just let us know what your preferences are with music and other details and we will gladly accommodate you.
