I am an honestly dishonest trickster who has been performing professionally since 2006. I perform for families and businesses, at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, at Baltimore's Inner Harbor, in the French Quarter in New Orleans, and at places like the boardwalk in Ocean City, Maryland. I would love to talk with you about how I can help you to make your event memorable for your guests.
Doc was the highlight of my sons 8th Birthday Party.
My son and his friends had lots of fun.
Doc made sure that he included everyone in the party even my two year old daughter.
I highly recommend Doc.
We had the pleasure of having Doc perform for our child's 7th birthday party. He was such a delight! Not only were the kids in awe of the show but the adults as well! Loved seeing the amusement on thr children's faces! Our son talked about him for days afterwards. Our son also recieved a handwritten letter from Doc several days later in thr mail thanking him for having him for the party and how much he enjoyed performing for his friends.
Would highly recommend Doc for any occasion!

You can expect a performer who is on time, who is self-contained as far as needed materials and sound, who is easy to work with, who is polite to all of your patrons, and who realizes that the show is about the experience of the patrons. You can expect laughter, applause, and amazement.
What you see will depends on the venue and event:
- A birthday party for small children has colorful silks appearing from an empty bag and from thin air, an appearing puppet that I say is terribly fearsome but is actually lovable, and lots of laughter while your child is the star of the show.
- A corporate event where I am doing walk around magic or close-up magic at tables for your guests during the cocktail hour might include the three shell game for grand and glorious prizes and/or mystifying card tricks where the magic happens in the hands of the spectators or at the very least in their minds.
- A trade show experience includes magic with a message that is designed to bring people into your booth and to keep them there while you gather needed information, and then releasing the crowd to your sales staff.
- A birthday party for an older child includes performing mystifying magic and teaching magic that each guest takes with them. You have the free option of me meeting with your child via Zoom for a half an hour before the day of the event to teach an effect that your child can then do for their friends during the actual show.
I grew up in a family of storytellers and tricksters. Sitting around the table after a big holiday meal, my uncles kept us all in stitches telling stories of their escapades. My father was the first magician that I saw perform with simple tricks that he used to make a point when he taught Sunday School and Summer Bible School.
Although I am someone who tries to live my life with integrity, I admit to a fascination with the old time con artists who traveled across the county inventing ways to cheat the cheaters. I tell people that I am honest about my dishonesty when I'm doing magic since my dear mother taught me to be honest and to follow the rules - which I always do as long as I make the rules.
Magic for me is more than a job. It is a way to create a space in time where it is okay to laugh, to wonder, and to celebrate the arts that make us human. I am fortunate that I had a long and wonderful career as a school teacher, and then was able to retire in order to start the next chapter in my life as a grandfather and professional magician / storyteller.
What I need is:
- a parking space near to where I am performing
- 20 minutes to set up if I am doing a 45 minute show (can be surrounded by patrons if need be)
- an audience (the size of the group depends on you) that I can access during the performance
- 10 minutes to get off the performing space if I am providing the sound equipment for up to 500 people
- 2 minutes to get off the performing space if my sound equipment was not needed
- prompt payment on or before the day of the event if possible
Doug Conn - street performer in New Orleans
Pop Haydn - magician extraordinaire
Pete Watt and Charlie Ames - local Lancaster magicians who are now deceased
The con artists and grifters who traveled in style by rail and boat across this great land cheating the cheaters
I am self contained.
