Dr. Hillary Anger Elfenbein delivers keynote speeches on negotiation, women in leadership, and emotional intelligence. She uses the evidence-based approach of a decorated researcher while keeping audiences laughing as a stand-up comedian who was voted one of St. Louis’ 30 funniest people. In her day job, Dr. Elfenbein is the Wallace Distinguished Professor at Washington University and holds 4 degrees from Harvard: a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior joint between business and psychology, MA degree in Statistics, and BAs in Physics and Sanskrit. Her award-winning studies have been published in the top academic journals in management and psychology.
Dr. Elfenbein presented a lecture on Women in Negotiating to the Washington University Womens Society as a feature in our Education series. She was amazing in both content and delivery. Hillary presented a session on negotiations for BOLD 2022 – a summer high school program hosted by the Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis. Hillary taught general negotiation concepts and strategies like “BATNA-Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement” and “ZOPA-Zone of possible agreement.” She had an activity planned where students applied what they just learned and negotiated with each other in a mini competition. In our post-program survey, a handful of students identified her session as one of their favorites. One student said, “I very much enjoyed the professor who taught that (negotiation) course because she was very easy to learn from compared to many professors out there.” Hillary is a high energy, passionate speaker. She prepares engaging activities for the group that furthered their learning and she was excellent at getting everyone involved in the session.
