The most eventful day of my life was when I renewed my relationship with Jesus Christ. That's when I transformed my music career from a jazz and R&B artist to serving God with my musical talents. Gospel music and serving God are the two driving forces in my life now. As a Gospel Saxophonist and Speaker, I developed a program titled Sax, Scripture, and Song. SSS combines two core competencies of our faith; Biblical scriptures and Gospel songs. I proposed to my girlfriend this past weekend and decided to hire a saxophone player to play a few tunes before/during the proposal (she loves cheesy). I must have received offers from 10 different musicians of different levels and prices, but the immediate and thorough response I got from Dr. Brown won me over. And, the price was more than reasonable.
You can't call yourself Dr. James Brown without being ready and able to live up to the name. I was skeptical at first, but Dr. Brown exceeded my expectations. Not only did he bring the sax, but he also had the backing tracks to play along with.
He went above and beyond from day 1 to make sure that the proposal was just the way I wanted it to be and even tolerated some 4th quarter adjustments. He also provided suggestions and insight from a musician's perspective to make sure the whole thing went smoothly.
Great communication, excellent performance, and just a wonderful person to share our moment with. She was shocked, said yes, and we are definitely going to keep the Doctor in mind for the big day!

Dr. Brown knew just which songs to play, when to amp it up and when to fade it out.... a beautiful evening of music which we all appreciated. Excellent sound quality. I was worried his play list would be too much pop, but he played a nice medley including some jazz classics from Brubeck and Gershwin.
From the first contact to departure, James was the consummate professional. I retained James for a private concert for my wife on Valentine's Day. I liked the way he conducted business. But, my wife and I truly LOVED his style and music selection. He created the atmosphere that I was looking for that night for my wife. James was generous on his time. He never once looked at his watch. James could have played all night--he loves his music. What I liked about James is that he got better each song he played; it was amazing. The best part was giving us his autographed CD in memory of the event. It was the perfect hour of love songs. If you are thinking of an artist that you will enjoy doing business with and listen to, I highly recommend this artist!

SSS is a 60 to 75 minute program presentation that combines two of the core competencies of our faith; Biblical scriptures and Gospel songs, along with a powerful message....a very unique approach to gospel music. My talent of playing the soprano, alto and tenor saxophones has blessed me with the ability to play a wide variety of musical selections. Any of my SSS song selections can be performed with your church choir.

I am a multi-instrumentalist gospel saxophone player, and I love to create music.
I’ve been playing the saxophone for over 25 years and I am passionate about working with people. Through the years, I have performed on the both East and West coasts of the U.S. and various territories of the Caribbean.
I began my music career as a jazz and R&B artist. Now, my passion is Gospel Music. Gospel music and serving God are two of the driving forces in my life. That’s what truly motivates me every day as I work on making music that inspires others to express themselves through their belief in their faith and their religion.
I believe there is a place for everyone in the church community. If you’re looking for a musician for special events, spiritual meetings, or church functions—or if you need someone to play the saxophone with your church choir, I would love to be a part of your community and assist you in reaching the pre-determined destiny that God has set for your organization.
I provide a basic music set-up. I use a Yamaha MG06X mixer and I provide my own speaking microphone. I will need to connect with your XLR system for amplification. I would request that your sound technician be available for set-up and sound checks and a hand truck or cart for transporting my equipment into your facility.
Travel and lodging expenses will be required for events that are more than 75 miles from San Diego California.
