I can offer you just me, solo on guitar or you can have the choice of a small trio or larger band. I also have a cajon player and fiddle to add. I am also a great Hank Williams Sr impersonator and can play this on demand!
"He has star written all over him ...and he sounds great"
- Colin Thomas/The Georgia Straight
"..If k.d. lang, David Bowie and Johnny Cash had a menage a trois and produced a vocal offspring, that voice would be Duff MacDonald. "
"Creates an instant mood with his growling, sometimes honey-sweet voice." - Jon Kaplan/NOW Magazine, Toronto
"Canada has a lot to be blamed for: Nickelback, Justin Bieber but it’s also given us the wonderful Carly Rae Jepsen and Maple Syrup and we can now add Duff’s album to that illustrious list of ‘good things to come out of Canada’." - Dan Clampin/Sound and Motion Magazine, UK.

Hailing from the wide open prairies of Saskatchewan, Duff has been singing and songwriting since the age of seven. He picked up the guitar at age fourteen and went on to win the Saskatchewan Search For the Stars at age 16. He also was a finalist in the Music City Song Festival in Nashville for his song “Dreamin" early in his career. He has performed venues all across Canada and the USA from coffee houses to large theatres and stadiums.
His new single "Pennies, Nickels & Dimes" has had great success and rotation on radio stations all across Canada reaching #1 on the Country charts on the Canadian Indie Country Music Countdown.
His first professional recording came on a CD Compilation entitled “Desolation Sound” . Off his first recording, Duff received airplay for “If I Only Had the Time” and “In the Night” on CBC Radio Canada.
As a part of the wave of the African Relief efforts he was asked to perform on the Saskatchewan African Relief Recording/video entitled “Wheatheart” and on the recording/video of “Light a Child’s Life” (Toronto Sick Kid’s Hospital) on Canada’s Much Music in 1989.
Duff’s 1st solo debut album ROOTS was released in February of 2011 to great success and can now be found streaming online on almost every music site and platform including iTunes, CBCMusic, Spotify, Emusic, Discovr, Amazon Mp3, CD Baby, Myspace, Shazam and Bandcamp. He has sold over 1500 hard copies to date and has radio airplay happening all over Canada, The U.S and Europe. Recorded in his at home studio, it was a testament to what artists are achieving these days in the digital music world.
His second album NAKED is currently digitally available online within Apple Music, iTunes, GooglePlay and Amazon as well as many other sites. Material inspired by some major life events like the sudden passing of his parents, his brother and the end of a relationship. It has received airplay on every platform and many radio stations across Canada, the USA and Europe selling thousands of copies. The official music video can be seen on Youtube and on VEVO Music.
PLAYING ON THE ALBUM: Peter Bleakney (Anne Murray’s bass player of 25 years), Adam Warner (Kevin Quain and the Mad Bastards, Sarah Slean, Royal Wood) and Mark Stewartson (Classic Albums Live) play on the album. Featuring Duncan Scott on Mandolin/Fiddle, Fred Smith on Banjo/Dobro and Michael Lerner on Keys and Synth. Produced by Duff and Michael Lerner. Featured on the album is a haunting duet of the celtic traditional song "The Skye Boat Song" with Juno Award nominated singer songwriter WENDY LANDS. A host of other well-known Canadian talent sing backup on many of the songs including Mark Cassius (The Nylons) and Ma-Anne Dionisio (Miss Saigon).
Mr. MacDonald is a seasoned performer of the stage, radio and television, acting in over 30 musicals and plays across Canada and the USA like ONCE and LES MISERABLES. He has also appeared in several national and international commercials. You're sure to have seen him in film and television roles like the recent Titans (Netlix), Locke and Key (Netflix), Good Witch, Incorporated (SyFy), Cinderella Man, Foolproof, The Music Man (Disney) and most recently in the nation-wide spot AMEX/AEROPLAN, DESJARDINS and for BOSTON PIZZA as the gold Professional Sports Trophy Model. Extremely popular during the 2015 World Baseball Series.
My requirements for solo are very minimal. I own a small Yorkville EXCURSION AMP/Speaker, an AKG Mic and Stand. My guitar plugs into that. It's battery powered so I can set up virtually anywhere.
Chair/and or stool may be required but not necessary. Depends on the space.
Can perform acoustically as well with no amp.
LIGHTING: Whatever is avail. but not needed. If it's an evening gig, I will need some sort of lighting and if rain is in the forecast, a tent or covering.
