Durham County Poets are from the Chateauguay valley located in Southwest Quebec, Canada. Their influences are varied, from blues to folk, from jazz to ragtime, with elements of the Band, James Taylor, Jimmy Reed, even some Leon Redbone. Each member brings a different musical background to the group that marries into a sound which some have labeled as soulful folk. With a relaxed vibe, coupled with seasoned musicality and even a tinge of comedy, Durham County Poets are guaranteed to please.

We are able to offer an original and varied musical performance featuring two albums worth of our own material intermixed with some covers. From Blues to Gospel and jazz to folk there's music for all to enjoy and appreciate. Cover material varies from Van Morrison, to James Taylor, the Band to classics such as (link hidden)mes Infirmary and People Get Ready.
We have a small stage footprint as we often perform with a smaller percussion setup of snare and djimbe only. Standup bass and acoustic guitars are standard, so the volume and feel is very dynamic.
Durham County Poets are made up of Kevin Harvey- lead vocals & harmonica, David Whyte-electric & acoustic guitars, Neil Elsmore- acoustic & slide guitars, Carl Rufh- upright bass & James Preimel-drums and percussion.
The band grew out of the lively music scene in Ormstown, Quebec, a town that was once called Durham county. They first performed at the Branches and Roots folk festival in 2011 and soon after released their debut album, 'Where the river flows' in 2012 with drummer/producer John McColgan at the helm. In 2014, amidst a busy year of shows, interviews and even some television, their second album, 'Chikkaboodah Stew' was released . With plenty of material still to be recorded and the creative juices still flowing, the Poets are forging ahead in hopes of leaving their stamp on Canadian music.
Our lead singer is in a wheelchair and requires access if at all possible. As band members we can get him up and downstairs and on and off stage with ease.
We can provide our own PA system and soundman if needed, along with lighting etc.
Our needs as a hired act are four vocal mics on stands. Percussionist
brings his own mics.
One mic for a small fender amp along with a DI. One XLR out for the bass players DI and one for the the other guitarist.
The bass player uses a Fishman Pro Eq and the one guitarist an LR Baggs Venue DI.
