THE EDDIE REYNOLDS TRIO WILMINGTON, NC
Eddie Reynolds from Wilmington, NC, Josh Harris from Chesapeake, Va. Jonathan Billings, from Wilmington, NC, make up the Eddie Reynolds Trio. I don't want to forget two of my favorite people that mean so much to us, Elaine and Ron Bovender, Elaine plays piano like Roger Bennet and what a joy to have her on stage with us, there is nothing like the real "thang" you just can't do with can music like you can the real thing. Ron is a great sound engineer, paying close attention to mix that leaves that stage. Now if we only had a bass player?
The founder of the group Eddie Reynolds started his career in Southern Gospel Music at the age of 14 singing with Kevin Covington, Tony Reynolds and Joey Gore, all of the young men were from Wilmington, NC and no one could drive yet so our parents provided love , advice and transportation (mainly Mr and Mrs Joe Gore) until Eddie got his license in 1976. The group recorded their first album in 1976 in Columbia, SC the group was transported by the Covingtons and the Gores to Rally Ranch Recording Studios to make their first 33 LP Album. That was definitely a memorable moment in my life.
The group continued to gain popularity by appearing regularly on local television WECT Channel 6, on the Willie B. Lewis Gospel Hour and the Tommie Thompson Insurance Program, and on WWAY singing for the March of Dimes Telethon (we met Kristy McNichol introducing her to Southern Gospel Music) and receiving invitations to open for major gospel artists of the day such as Jerry and the Singing Goff’s, The Cathedrals, Wendy Bagwell and the Sun Liters, we sang with them on a flat bed trailer on Greenfield Street in Wilmington, NC. The Sego Brothers and Naomi, Ed O’Neal and The Dixie Melody Boys, The English Family of Wallace (Mike English’s Family Group), plus many more.
My music continued later in solo music ministry and was nominated soloist of the year and album of the year in 1991 by Music City News in Nashville, Tennessee. This nominated album “What a Sacrifice” was produced by two of his friends that were present members of the prestigious Cathedral Quartet at the time, Roger Bennett and Danny Funderburk. Later a second solo album “All Together Better” produced by great Eddie Crook of Goodlettsville, Tennessee. Harvest Records an old well know name of the times, released many songs of the the day into mainstream southern gospel music all over the United States and the world of southern gospel music.
Eddie and his wife Angela worked regular jobs and later had a successful business for 10 years in Wilmington, NC and raised their three daughters, it was hard not being in full time southern gospel music because that's where my heart was. I did however get to sing full time with a living legend, Naomi Sego for awhile but returned to work as a full time law enforcement officer after that.
I organised and incorporated the NC Southern Gospel Music Association a few years ago with a desire to bring people together with common goals of producing more large events in a state that has produced numerous amounts of people serving the Lord in this industry.
The Eddie Reynolds Trio are professional musicians that like what they do serving God and proclaiming the name of Jesus and it shows at every concert. They place God and their family first in their lives and they love spreading the word in song, seeing people change their lives. Your church or event would be well served if you invite this group to present the Gospel at your church or any venue. Appearing in places such as The Pentagon in Washington, DC, The World Premier Gospel Music TV, in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and recently at the Miami Rescue Mission in Miami, Florida.
Josh Harris is a dynamic baritone singer and one of the best vocalists in southern gospel music today, Jonathan Billings is another great vocalist, full steam ahead on the Lead and Eddie Reynolds is just a regular old time tenor singer still trying to keep up with the young people. "The harmony is OK, just kidding, we think it's great, (I just want to see if anybody ever reads this stuff) and it`s by far the best group I've had the pleasure of singing with (sorry Naomi, I do love you though and what you stand for, what a blessing you are and have been in my life) and I’m looking forward to our association in the ministry for many years".
Also when the family travels with us you get to hear other great voices such as Jessica Reynolds, Rachel Reynolds and Leah Reynolds. When my grandchildren go and sing (Noah and Lanie) it just blows me away how at the young age of 8 and 9 they could sing harmony. It's all Jesus. Angela and I are so blessed to travel and sing the Gospel with our children. Please call us and book us for your next homecoming, church service or special event. You'll be glad you did. We love you and thank you for all your prayers since our accident in December of 2013.
