Dr. Heidi Kay Begay is a self-employed flutist, educator, podcaster, and non-profit organizer. Heidi has taught at campuses including Tarrant County College’s Trinity River Campus (TX) and Eastern New Mexico University. From 2009 to 2022, Heidi has taught throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolis in various independent school districts.
Heidi has an ongoing interest in performing internationally, nationally, and locally. Recent performances have taken place in Greece, Italy, Orlando, Chicago, Washington D.C., and Texas. In July of 2019, she was a competitor at the Cluj International Music Competition in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
Heidi is the creator and host of the Flute 360 podcast, which delivers free, educational episodes through various podcast platforms. Current distribution includes over 72,000 downloads in the United States and 70 countries.
Flute 360 performances and/or podcast presentations have been in Helsinki (FIN), Sofia (BGR), Bucharest (ROU), Thessaloniki (GRC), Elmhurst (IL), Downers Grove (IL), Mendota (IL), Port Aransas (TX), Commerce (TX), Denton (TX), Arlington (TX), among others. Heidi collaborated with the Wm. S. Haynes Flute Company at the NFA’s Flute Convention in Salt Lake City (UT) to interview flute convention performers and guests. Finally, the Flute 360 podcast is grateful to have received numerous corporate sponsorships since its inception.
Heidi works with non-profit organizations at the national and international levels. Currently, she is working on a creative project with Clark Hodge and Ron Royer through Chase the Music. This organization creates and performs original musical gifts for children battling critical conditions.
Furthermore, she holds the International Liaison position through the Tampere Flute Fest in Finland. In addition, she is on the executive committees of the Ultimate Music Business Summit and The International Virtual Festival hosted by the Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra. Former positions through the Texas Flute Society include executive and festival committee roles, such as president, president-elect, treasurer, registration coordinator, festival co-chair, and industry/commercial liaison.
Heidi’s research publications are featured in Babel Flute, Flute View, and Flute Talk magazines. Also, she has been an adjudicator for the National Flute Association (NFA), the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), the Texas Flute Society (TFS), and the Tampere Flute Fest (TFF).
Heidi’s degrees include a D.M.A. from Texas Tech University, an M.M. from the Northwestern State University of Louisiana, and a B.A. in Music from The University of Arizona.
