They love what they do and it shows. Several complements from our customers.
Santa & Mrs. Clause were awesome with the children (adults too) at our annual Cookies with Santa community event. Will use again. Thank you.
Response from Fool Hearty:
We had a wonderful time at your event, thank you for including us in your Christmas celebration.
Santa and Mrs. Claus showed up a little ahead of time and immediately began engaging with the crowd. They were so involved, warm and welcoming! I will definitely book them again next year.
Response from Fool Hearty:
We had such a wonderful time at your event! Thank you for including us in your Christmas celebration. The community outreach of your Church truly touched our hearts, and was very spiritually inspiring! So many happy kids and their families receiving gifts. Have a blessed holiday.
Santa & Mrs. Claus were fantastic and such an asset to our event. From ease of booking to flexibility with a date change to wonderful feedback from guests, we could not be happier with our experience.
Thanks for everything!
Everyone at our party just loved how realistic Santa looked. Santa and Mrs. Claus mingled with the kids and our fur babies, even taking pictures with our foster pups. They are very sweet and you can tell they enjoy what they do. We will be booking them for next year!
Response from Fool Hearty:
Thank you so much, we really enjoyed being Santa and Mrs. Claus at your Christmas party. We look forward to celebrating with you next year!
They were amazing! very sweet and interacting with our guests. 10/10 would recommend and would definitely want to hire them again next year!
Santa and Mrs. Claus were beyond fantastic. They not only looked the part but were kind, compassionate and engaging with the children. We couldn’t have asked anymore from them. They arrived on time, worked closely with me and were very accommodating to help make our event successful. I wholeheartedly recommend Fool Hardy for your next event. They will not disappoint you.
Response from Fool Hearty:
Thank you so much for the wonderful review! We had a great time as Santa and Mrs. Claus at your event. Hopefully we'll see you next year!
Fool Hardy, Santa and Mrs. Claus, were outstanding. I cannot say enough good things about them. Not only were their costumes authentic, but they played their roles beautifully. They mingled with the crowds, sat for pictures, and the kids and parents were in awe of them. They communicated well with me and arrived on time. I highly recommend them for any Christmas event.
Fool Hearty attended out awards dinner and did a fabulous job of entertaining our guests. They provided walk around entertainment performing magic tricks and telling jokes and everyone seemed to really enjoy it. Thanks to Fool Hearty for doing a wonderful job. I highly recommend Fool Hearty for any party or event.
These are the friendliest professional people out there. Very entertaining!
When Fool Hearty enters, smile spread wider! They are such a kind, caring and gentle couple. They both love to entertain, giving their attention to the audience. Their 'untrained' animals are very well trained and the audience becomes enchanted with the spirit of the show. Being around these two joyful, loving people is a pure pleasure!
I worked with Mark and Tara for 10 years and over 400 shows. They are some of the funniest most crowd pleasing entertainers you will find. And they are professionals willing to lend a hand and get the show done. Highly recommend!
Price Range: $400 - $2,000
Gig Length: 30 - 240 minutes
We speak in a slight accent, as our characters are from "Zanzibar". We wear clown makeup, lots of bells, and elaborate costumes. Our magic tricks involve audience volunteers, usually children, however we can cater our performance to adults as well. The dove illusion requires a backstage area to prepare. The shows we do, engage the audience on a personal level. We often comment on things that are happening in the moment, and we love to joke around and be silly. Marquise eats fire ~ and he does a tongue transfer to light an unlit torch. I provide the drum roll! We do juggling, that's not really our main focus. Our dog show has a lot of props that require assembly at the venue pre-show. Again, we will structure our performance to meet the needs and capabilities of the event venue.
Mark has been performing professionally for 44 years, and is a 2nd generation clown. Myself, Tara, I began performing in children's theater when I was 12 years old, and have been performing professionally for 25 years. We both love what we do!
Fool Hearty show is owned by Tara & Mark Reed; a husband and wife team of traveling Fools. :-) We've been traveling and performing the Renaissance Faire circuit for 24 years. We move around the United States doing shows, sharing smiles, laughter, and loving life!
We are currently located just outside of Houston, Texas. Soon, we will be traveling to and staying just outside of Austin, TX (March-April). Beyond those dates, our tour for 2020 is still being defined. We are open and receptive to wonderful new events.
Our act, Fool Hearty, has been awarded 1st place for "Best Children's Act or Performance" four times, and in 2017, we won 1st place for "Best non-musical Comedy Act" in the periodical Renaissance Magazine. We were also featured on the cover of Renaissance Magazine, issue #88.
Mark designs and creates our intricate costumes himself, our outfits are historicallly called "bells & motley". They are colorful, bright, and festive.
Our Jester characters: "Marquise, Zany from Zanzibar" and "Ima Nutte" are well defined, and have fun interactions! Our energy is upbeat and uplifting, and we come from the heart with our humor. Even when we are making jokes about being married (which we often do) there is an underlying joy and affection to everything we say. Our comedy is layered with jokes to appeal to people of all ages.
Although we are Renaissance themed in our costuming, with our jingly bells and festive face paint, we fit in well with diverse celebrations. Some theme ideas: Mardi Gras, Circus, Birthdays, School Shows, Street Fairs, State Fairs, & Christmas Parties ~ which reminds me ~ we also have a glorious Father Christmas character that's available. That costume was constructed to perform at Renaissance Faire's as well.
At Festivals, we present 3 different shows:
Fool Hearty's ~ "Magic Show" (Interactive magic, close-up magic, dove illusion)
Fool Hearty's ~ "Untrained Dog Show" (Comedy dog show with border collies)
Fool Hearty's ~ "Fool's School" (We bring up an adult audience volunteer and teach him to be a fool)
Depending on the event and venue, we will adapt our show to meet the needs of your clients. We can combine elements of our performance, and it can be free flowing. Our dog show, however, has necessary staging and timing requirements. Our other shows work well on nearly every stage. We have our own sound equipment if necessary and when appropriate. We are professional and experienced.
Our fee is determined by many details ~ travel distance, length of the gig, services provided, etc. It's best for you to have an idea of your available budget, and to provide us information about the performance space when we correspond. Thank you so much for your interest in our show and characters!
Will provide more info about our technical needs when discussing the event and the staging area. Dog show requires a proper staging area with enough room for the props, also needs a backstage area for their dog pens, typically we use sound enhancement for the performance because our dogs bark enthusiastically. Also requires at least an hour of set up and tear down of equipment. It takes us an hour to do our makeup, and 30 minutes to dress.

Shows on stage, runs 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or up to 1 hour. May include fire eating, juggling, stage magic, pocket magic, and comedy dog tricks. We also perform as "walk around" characters. We are a fun photo opportunity
Mark grew up watching Red Skelton, Burns and Allen, and his own Father. I was inspired by Carol Burnett, and shows like "Whose Line is it Anyway", "Saturday Night Live". We've been told our show has a vaudeville feel to it.
