About
Gary Reasons – Sports Bio
(Books Nationwide)
Gary Reasons is a well-known North Texas native who has enjoyed great success as an athlete, a national broadcaster, and as a thought-leading business and technology executive. His “life with football” career is very unique as Gary has been actively involved with football for 50 consecutive years.
Beginning at the age of 8, Gary’s football and sports journey began in the south Fort Worth suburb of Crowley, Texas, where he earned 15 varsity letters during his days at Crowley High School. He was a first-team all-state football selection following his senior season and was honored with the retirement of his #40 high school jersey. Recently he received the ultimate honor as Crowley’s stadium field was named in his honor and is testament to a true local success story.
Gary’s high school accolades were rewarded as he accepted a scholarship offer to play linebacker for Northwestern State University in Louisiana. He went on to become the most decorated football athlete in University history as he became the first player in FCS history to receive First Team All American honors for 3 consecutive years. He was awarded the State’s most valuable Collegiate player honor for his senior year and ultimately the retirement of his #34 jersey immediately following his senior season. In 1996 Gary was selected as part of the inaugural class of small college players for induction to the National College Football Hall of Fame and in 1997 he was enshrined to the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
Gary’s professional sports career began in 1984 where he was a 4th round draft selection by the New York Giants as an inside linebacker and played under legendary coaches Bill Parcells and Bill Belichik. He went on to play nine years in the NFL earning All-Rookie, All-NFL, and All-Madden Team awards and was a key part of New York’s dominating defenses as they won two NFL Championships winning Super Bowl XXI & Super Bowl XXV. Gary's play for the New York Giants was so prolific that as part of the Giants 100th Season Celebration in 2024, he was selected as one of the Top 100 New York Giants All-Time players. Also during his career, Gary was greatly respected by his teammates and he served as the Giants’ NFLPA Player Representative as well as serving for six years as a Vice President on the NFLPA Executive Committee.
Following his NFL playing career Gary began a college football broadcasting career in 1994 with ABC Sports and ESPN. For four seasons Gary traveled the country covering every major conference and has shared the broadcast booth with legendary voices such as Keith Jackson, Brent Musberger, Brad Nessler, Mark Jones, and Terry Gannon. Gary joined FOX Sports in 1998 as a lead game analyst and he has enjoyed a long tenure with Fox Sports Southwest where over the years he has joined play-by-play announcers Bill Land, Joel Meyers, Kevin Eschenfelder, and Craig Way on the network’s football coverage of the Big 12 Conference, Conference USA, The Southland Conference, and the Texas UIL High School State Championships. The 2024 season marks Gary’s 31st season as a TV football analyst.
Gary has also enjoyed a stint coaching football when in 2004 he became the first-ever Head Coach for the new franchise, Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz of the Arenafooball2 League and led the team to a 10-6 inaugural season and playoff berth. He left after one season but returned in 2008 to lead all aspects of the organization as its Team President.
Concurrent to his sports and broadcast career Gary has enjoyed a successful business career as an entrepreneur and as a senior executive with major technology firms providing industry insight and strategy for clients in the Sports, Media, and Entertainment industry.
