Hello all! We are back for henna but (unfortunately) face painting has been put on hold for a yet-as-determined date.
Due to covid and the fact that Multnomah County was the last to allow Phase I, we had to shut down at the beginning of March and leading into the busiest part of the year but are now taking appts. for personal henna appts. in our studio and potentially parties and events with all safety measures in place.
Our studio is open by appointment only and can only accomodate 1-3 people at a time.

Sam did a wonderful job at our annual festival. She came with her typewriter and all of the supplies. She even did some research into the local area's history to aid with her poem-making. I would hire Street Poet Sam again!
We enjoyed having Ruby's Henna at our reception, all of our guests were very entertained with her art.
We had our annual all staff event out at the lake and had Glitter Ruby come and do henna and glitter tattoos. She was absolutely wonderful. She always had a line of staff lined up to get beautiful henna and glitter tattoos. Everyone was thrilled with their henna. She was very prepared and was easy to work with. Would recommend definitely.
Sam made the event so special! Not only is she skilled and knowledgeable, she is kind and patient and really fun. The teens enjoyed her personality and learning about henna art. This will be a lasting memory. Thank you!

We hired Glitter Ruby for our community Diwali party (lots of kiddos). She was such a hit! The little ones loved their glitter tattoos, and it wasn't messy for them at all, which the parents loved. Her henna was also a hit. There was always a line! Thank you, Glitter Ruby!
We had Glitter Ruby come for 2 hours to our company picnic and she was AH-MAZING!!! Children, young and old, loved her! There was a line at her booth for the whole time she was with us. Sam came to our Employee Family Day BBQ and provided beautiful henna. She had great designs and the henna lasted for quite a while. Teens and adults really enjoyed having her there!
Sam Bones is a true artist and did beautiful henna work for our event held on July 1st, 2017. People raved about their henna tattoos and lined up to the point that she had to stay longer than anticipated. Sam offers a complimentary service of providing the guest of honor (in this case our daughter) with a special henna tattoo that they can get before the event so that they can fully visit and participate with all the guests. The event was celebrating our daughter's Bat Mitzvah and she asked Sam to create a design using her Hebrew name. Sam took on the challenge and created a stunning design. Glitter Ruby did an amazing job at our 8 year old girls Valentine's Party! She was on time, organized, efficient, affordable! She had a great way of connecting with all ages! I will hire her for other parties in the future!
Sam and her team provided amazing service for our Company picnic! They did face paint, Henna and Balloon Twisting. Actually, when I told her I wanted a Balloon Twister, which isn't a part of her normal package, she arranged to have one of her contacts join. I didn't have to do a thing!
She was wonderful to work with while planning the event. Always very responsive, on time, and the art was amazing! They were the biggest hit at the event and we will use them for all our future events as well.

The artist, Sam, was wonderful to work with from the initial set up months before the event and throughout the all night graduation party. The graduates loved, loved, loved her artwork and she had a very easy going and sincere personality that made her interactions with the students positive. Sam is a wonderful artist and a reliable professional. She was prompt and efficient. Our guests left with wonderful body art and, hopefully, great memories.
I have been working with Sam for over a decade and her talents can't be beat. It may be henna wings for Burning Man, or a Mardi Gras mask for a masquerade party, or whatever random project I ask her to try on me, she always delivers with professionalism, enthusiasm and helpfulness.
She is very fun and talented and by far my favorite henna artist. In addition, she uses quality materials, has concerns about safety and seeks out the best sources for sustainable, organic henna ingredients. Her face paint is also high quality, is easy to wear and lasts for a long time. I highly recommend her for both family oriented events as well as more fringe and challenging projects.
I really appreciated her coming to the quinceanera last minute. Very easy to work with, super nice, showed up early enough to start on time & the teenagers really enjoyed it. A lot of them didn't know what it was and were really excited about getting henna done once I told them. It was a great addition to the party.
On behalf of Sam Bones of A La Henna Body Art, I want to recognize her as Awesome! We met Sat at a Girl Scout rally where she was introducing her Henna. I decided to have a Henna party for my niece's birthdays. She put together a package for us with everything we would need including excellent directions. There were 8 girls and myself. We were up until 1 AM having so much fun with out tattoos! We are looking forward to another party. We live at the coast so we may come to Portland next time and we will then have Sam host our party so we can have even more exciting tattoos! My daughter had her face painted by Sam at our local National Night Out event. I thought Sam's paint job was fantastic, and I sought her out to come to my daughter's 7th birthday party. Sam arrived on time, had a great rapport with the kids, and her creations were absolutely beautiful. Every parent at the party thought having a face painter was a fabulous idea. I would definitely hire Sam again.
I have an entertainment company and execute a large amount of events per year. It is difficult enough to keep all the events in order and I steer away from any artist that creates "noise" by not acting professional, showing up late, or that provides an inferior quality of art. Sam Bones has worked with me for over 13 years. She is punctual, completely reliable and a great artist. I recommend her for any event you might have.

In order to henna or face paint, we require a well-lit area, or access to an electrical outlet-we will bring the cords and lights.
A minimum of 3 feet around the working area so that we are not jostled around by excited guests!
Minimum distance between artist and balloon twisters and dunk tanks or other water-type entertainment.
Minimum 20 feet between bouncy houses or other blow up type of features.
Although it is not always possible, please make sure not to place us right near loud bands or other loud entertainment as we cannot hear the guests and can't yell over the sound.
A well lit area or access to electricity.
