Hip-Hop has a new face. Gonzo exploits economic inequality, facism, and the American education system. What?!
Some hip-hop throws out ego. Some of it talks about being a gangster. Gonzo's hip-hop looks at the world and spits loudly about the things we should all be freaking out about.
The moniker "Gonzo" was taken after a writing style coined to honor Hunter S Thompson's "Gonzo Journalism"; a writing style he identifies with as a journalist.
Born and raised in downtown Detroit, Gonzo experienced the personal challenges that come from life in a rust-belt city that didn't have much to offer. Although Detroit is going through a rebirth which we celebrate, his daily life in a shambled infrastructure feeds his writing.
He was previously signed by Sony BMG for a Trial period when his band I=mc2 was featured as a top contender on MTVU's Best Music On Campus Contest. His band's song "Trouble" was featured on an MTVU documentary entitled "Indebted" describing college students taking on large amounts of Student Loan Debt. That was 2008, and today as an independent artist he has positioned himself to be discovered in 2017. His first 3-song LP Detroit Detroit! will drop on November 13th.
His most recent E.P. Detroit Anthem is a telling of a new city built from the ashes of the old, poised for greatness once again.
