A songwriter of heartfelt, melodic Americana (American Roots) songs. A talented guitarist, singer, and performer, he is equally at home in front of thousands of people or an intimate crowd at a house concert. Grant is a voting member of NARAS (The Grammys) and the CMA (Country Music Association). His albums DUST BOWL: AMERICAN STORIES and APPALACHIA: AMERICAN STORIES have received rave reviews from top reviewers, including NO DEPRESSION, the unofficial bible of roots music, who said: "Grant's ability to capture the heartland in his music is amazing....lyrics and music as potent as Woody Guthrie ... sent chills down my spine." He performs his original songs across the USA and internationally.
He was on-time, professional, and sounded great! He learned songs for my wedding very quickly!
Response from Grant Maloy Smith:
Thank you and congrats on your lovely wedding -- the sun came out right in the middle of it, which is a beautiful symbol of the years to come. Good luck with everything - it was a pleasure to be a small part of your special day.
Grant delivered a performance that I'll never forget. I would highly recommend him for your venue or in-home concerts. His original songs hit home and tugged at our heart strings. A true artist. Five stars for you Grant!
Response from Grant Maloy Smith:
Thanks so much, Katherine. I was so pleased to meet you and perform at your festival. Madisonville is a wonderful town - just my kind of place. I also enjoyed performing on your radio station, KMVL, a few days before the festival. I hope that I get the opportunity to perform for you again!
Grant,
Did a great job arrived on time and made my special event a memorable day singing my favorite song on my special day.
Response from Grant Maloy Smith:
It was an honor and a pleasure to play a small role in your beautiful wedding. I enjoyed playing your song for you both as you walked the aisle. What a beautiful day!
Grant wrote one of the best letters of introduction I have ever received and struck the perfect professional tone in all communications thereafter. He agreed to perform at my venue's annual benefit fundraising concert as a way to get known to my audience. He was enthusiastically received which I expected based on the wealth of good video I was able to view beforehand. I will absolutely be booking him for a concert in the near future. Great songwriting and assured stage presence!
Response from Grant Maloy Smith:
Very kind of you to say, Gus! And I was thrilled to get the chance to perform a short set at the Blackstone River Theatre, which is easily one of the nicest (inside and out) venues of its kind in the USA. That doesn't happen by accident, so kudos to you and everyone involved in running the BRT. Looking forward to performing there again sometime soon!

Grant will show up on time and fully prepared to perform. He is very social and will engage with the audience before the show (when it's appropriate). When he takes the stage he will draw everyone into his heartfelt songs by his expressive singing and playing. Grant is a skilled performer, and will arrange and pace his set according to the emotional temperature of the room. He has 2 hours of original songs that he can perform, ranging from the tenderest love songs, to more dynamic numbers.
He talks (briefly) to the audience between songs, to make sure they are with him and fully entertained. He has a wry sense of humor and will display it from time to time. He is an accomplished guitarist and singer. Audiences always rave about his voice and guitar playing after seeing him perform.
Grant enjoys meeting the audience after shows and will happily sign photos, CDs, and programs, and chat with everyone who wants to meet him. He has several professionally made albums that have been in contention for Grammys® in recent years.
He has a youtube channel under the name americanrootsgrant that shows many of his recent performances, for your review. You can also find him on Facebook using the same name, as well as on his website.

"A heartland masterpiece .... lyrics and music as potent as Woody Guthrie ... Sent chills down my spine ... Grant is flawless ... Bound to become a classic ... Grant's ability to capture the heartland in his music is amazing ... A reminder of the darker period of Bob Dylan, and it’s that good, that memorable ... Grant Maloy Smith at his cleverest..."

Most venues have a PA and a sound-person already, but very small ones or house concerts sometimes do not. Therefore Grant has a high quality Fishman PA that he can bring if required. This PA is suitable for small rooms and up to 50 people maximum.
A stage monitor is requested for larger rooms, or those where there is not much sound coming back to the stage (i.e., outdoors).
There are no special lighting requests. This varies according to the venue type, although a professional appearance is always requested, for the greater enjoyment of the audience.
A raised stage is requested in venues, but not needed in house concerts or other extremely informal environments.
